Allaah has revealed the Qur'aan. Its Verses are clear to understand. He guides whom He wills and misguides whom He wills.

Thus have We sent it as clear signs, evidences and proofs, and surely, Allah guides whom He wills.

[Qur'aan 22:16]

Never consider yourself safe from the makr of Allaah. If you are guided today, you might end up misguided tomorrow. Always ask Allaah for guidance.

Then did they feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people.

[Qur'aan 7:99]

Guidance is only with Allaah. No one but Allaah can guide. Ask Him guidance day and night for how many who were guided ended up straying from the straight path and dying misguided.

Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.

[Qur'aan 28:56]

Shahr bin Hawshab said:

“I said to Umm Salamah: ‘O Mother of the Believers! What was the supplication that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said most frequently when he was with you?” She said: ‘The supplication he said most frequently was: “O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion (Yā Muqallibal-qulūb, thabbit qalbī `alā dīnik).’” She said: ‘So I said: “O Messenger of Allah, why do you supplicate so frequently: ‘O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.’ He said: ‘O Umm Salamah! Verily, there is no human being except that his heart is between Two Fingers of the Fingers of Allah, so whomsoever He wills He makes steadfast, and whomever He wills He causes to deviate.’”
