Speaker Looking for: Help Identifying Maqamat and how to recite like Raad Muhammad Al-Kurdi

    Salaam,

I wish to start off lightly. Implementing reciting Quran eventually as a daily routine, into my life.

There is a specific style I wish to start from (and learn) and would like help identifying what maqamat this may be. ("Maqamat" is a new term I came across, so do correct me if I'm wrong in the meaning).

It is the recitations of Qari – Raad Muhammad Al-Kurdi.
This is the style I wish to learn, especially from listening to his recitation of Surah Al-Naziah.
    Youtube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB14FKhqDwA&t=
(Alternatively, it is titled on YouTube: “Emotional & beautiful Quran recitation by Qari Muhammad Al Kurdi” )

Furthermore, on the second aayat (as one example), during the ghunna part, he does a fragile shake which I wish to learn.

From my limited understanding, I’d believe some of the tones/melodies are his own and unique, such as his choice of making his voice feel fragile at parts, as though it is breaking – I really wish to learn this as it adds more connection to me with the words of Allah (SWT). Is this his own style? And Is the specific technique I have described associated with any major maqamat, or more his own choice, and if so how would I learn it?

    Jazak Allahu khayran,
    Taher

Re: Looking for: Help Identifying Maqamat and how to recite like Raad Muhammad Al-Kur

    Hmm...

I have not seen the youtube link, but it would be better of if you start with learning and mastering the tajweed first. From my personal experience, I was in some way impressed by the recitation of Shaykh Abdullah Ali Jaber (rahimullah), he went at a speedy phase while hitting the tajweed correctly.

When I memorised the 3 juz, I realised I was going too fast. As I would go trying my best to imitate him, my teacher at that time would say 'shwai shwai' lol...this would make me miss the ghunna, qalqala etc.

After some time, when I first recited to my second teacher he picked out plenty of my mistakes on simple surahs. And whenever I would try to rectify it, it was bit difficult because it turned out to be a form of habit for me. So I went back to basics, kept on polishing the tajweed. It was a blessing I had this company of this teacher for a month, since he was a high qualified and well known Qari.

Then after a while, third teacher came in the scene. At the spot he randomly wanted to test my memorisation, and went through about much of one of the juz. You know when the teacher smiles at you (:P), indicating now you're in trouble. But Al hamdulillah, Quran is just a miracle that it does feels at time these verses are coming in your heart from nowhere when you feel you may have forgotten it. The recitation pretty much impressed him, why? because the tajweed was picked on correctly.

Maqamat is an advance level, honestly you would not need to follow a Shaykh by listening to his way of recitation. Just master the tajweed, and with time you will find a flow and enjoyment within your own way of recitation. Remember, Quran is not a normal thing. It is the Kalam of Allah rabul 'izza, do not learn it for the sake of impressing others or else it will escape your heart much easily.

If your intentions are pure, you will find yourself breezing through it. Hence some of my friends challenge each other in ramadan, as to how many times we can finish the whole Quran. And frankly speaking, for some finishing 5 times is just a minimum. Know some who kept their intentions pure, and now they make people impressed while leading the taraweeh.

Just keep your intentions clean, and see the miracle happening within your own eyes. InshaAllah!
    *double thumbs up*
