According to Muslims, God vowed to preserve the Quran. How come the earlier scriptures weren't persevered, and after all, they are God's words?

    Re: Preservation of the Quran....

Well, back then the people kept on changing Allah's words. Allah would reveal something, and the children of Israel or the progeny of Isa (alayhis salam) would change everything.

That's why Allah sent down the Qur'an in the first place- it's a final warning to stop all evil deeds and all injustices. He made Muhammad (peace be upon him) the last messenger, and the Qu'ran the last holy book. If it is to be the last holy book, then obviously it is to be preserved until the last day.

But it should be taken that that in itself is a miracle and a warning to those who believe. Just like how the Fir'aun's body has been preserved all these thousands of years. It is a clear message to everyone.

    Preservation of the Quran....

"It will be said to the pious believers in Islamic Monotheism: 'Oh you, the one in complete rest and satisfaction! Come back to your Lord well rested and well pleased!

Enter you among my honored servants!

    And enter you my paradise!

That's the thing bro Allaah azawajal made the people of the previous scriptures lookafter it and preserve it themselves. Whereas Allaah Almighty has promised to preserve and protect the Qur'aan, and there won't ever be any changing in it insha'Allaahu ta'aala.

One question bro, does that mean since the test of other nations was to preserve their scriptures, does that mean they didn't have to propagate the message to everybody else in that nation

Also, is what you have stated just the conclusions of scholars, or does it actually say this in the Qur'an or hadith?

The Prophet Muhammad pbuh said: 'Every Prophet used to be sent to his people alone but I have been sent to all mankind'. (Sahîh Bukhârî)

In other words, the previous nations did not have the same test of having to propagate the message to all humanity, it was only their nation that had to implement it. For example, the people of Africa are not responsible for the message of Prophet Jesus pbuh.

The Qur'an however has been sent for all mankind, as God's final revelation. It is also interesting to note that this is an era where a universal message is more practical as it is the age of global communcation and exchange of ideas. So Muslims have the duty to propagate this message everywhere, and with that extra duty they are relieved of the task of preserving it.
Also, is what you have stated just the conclusions of scholars, or does it actually say this in the Qur'an or hadith?
It is based on Qur'an and Ahadith, so this can be put forth as one reason why the Qur'an is preserved by God and the previous messages were to be preserved by their nations. It doesn't mean that there are no other reasons though.

    Brother Ansar,

These word have just really sunk in. The implications are beyond belief.

The Qur'an however has been sent for all mankind, as God's final revelation. It is also interesting to note that this is an era where a universal message is more practical as it is the age of global communcation and exchange of ideas. Just as soon as we humans are faced with the complexity of preserving the Qur'an in face of many who would desire to change it. The computer age hits. Now, it is not only on paper, and in human memories. It is now preserved upon millions if not billions of computers world wide. For the first time in history any person on earth has the ability to compare the preserved words with anything that is presented as a Qur'an.
