    AsalamuAlaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

    Ameen to the dua,

i duno bro, but try doing both!

Erm also jus' because one gets you more rewards you shouldn't abandon the others,

Even if the deed is small try and continuously do the deed.

If you get what i mean.

    Make dua for me

    WalaykumSalaam Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

    Re: reciting quran

It is very rewardable for someone to read the Qur'an, as is mentioned in the following ahaadeeth:

Memorizing Qur’aan is one of the greatest acts of worship, because it is reciting the words of Allaah, repeating them, and focusing on them. It is well known that reading one letter of the book of Allaah brings a tenfold reward, as al-Tirmidhi (2910) narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads one letter of the Book of Allaah will have one hasanah for it, and each hasanah is a tenfold reward. I do not say that alif-laam-meem is a letter, rather alif is a letter, laam is a letter and meem is a letter.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Muslim (804) narrated that Abu Umaamah al-Baahili (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Read the Qur’aan, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection interceding for its companions. Read the two bright ones, al-Baqarah and Soorat Aal ‘Imraan, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection like two clouds or shadows, or like two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading on behalf of their companions. Read Soorat al-Baqarah for reciting it regularly is a blessing and forsaking it is a loss, and the magicians cannot withstand it.”

Al-Tirmidhi (2914) and Abu Dawood (1464) narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’aan: ‘Recite and ascend, recite as you used to recite in the world, and your station will be at the last verse you recite.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (5/281, no. 2240), after which he said:

It should be noted that what is meant by “the companion of the Qur’aan” is the one who memorizes it by heart, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Let the people be led in prayer by the one who has most knowledge of Qur’aan,” i.e., the one who has memorized most Qur’aan. Differentiation in status in Paradise will be based on how much one memorized in this world, not on how much he reads as some people imagine. This shows that the one who memorizes Qur’aan enjoys a special virtue, but that is subject to the condition that his memorizing it be for the sake of Allaah, may He be blessed and exalted, and not for the sake of worldly gain or money, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Most of the hypocrites of my ummah will be reciters.”

One of the roots of the word 'Qur'aan' even means 'the recitation', and the Qur'an itself encourages us to read and reflect upon its meanings. The Companions of ther Prophet wwwislamicboardcom - reciting quran also used to complete the whole Qur'an in one week!

It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad wwwislamicboardcom - reciting quran) the ability to recite it (the Qur'ân),
And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad wwwislamicboardcom - reciting quran through Jibrael (Gabriel)], then follow you its (the Qur'ân's) recital. [Al-Qiyaamah: 17-18]

O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad wwwislamicboardcom - reciting quran)!
Stand (to pray) all night, except a little.
Half of it, or a little less than that,
Or a little more; and recite the Qur'ân (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style . [Al-Muzzammil: 1-4]

Verily, your Lord knows that you do stand (to pray at night) a little less than two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so do a party of those with you, And Allâh measures the night and the day. He knows that you are unable to pray the whole night, so He has turned to you (in mercy). So, recite you of the Qur'ân as much as may be easy for you. He knows that there will be some among you sick, others travelling through the land, seeking of Allâh's Bounty; yet others fighting in Allâh's Cause. So recite as much of the Qur'ân as may be easy (for you), and perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât) and give Zakât, and lend to Allâh a goodly loan, and whatever good you send before you for yourselves, (i.e. Nawâfil non-obligatory acts of worship: prayers, charity, fasting, Hajj and 'Umrah, etc.), you will certainly find it with Allâh, better and greater in reward. And seek Forgiveness of Allâh. Verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.[Al-Muzzammil: 20]
