“Interpal is shocked to learn that Barclays Bank has today given our sister charity, Ummah Welfare Trust, 30 days’ notice until their bank accounts are to be closed. This is the latest case of Islamophobia within the banking sector. In light of Interpal’s ongoing crisis concerning Lloyds TSB, any claim by Barclays that their actions are for purely “commercial reasons”, are astonishing. This is purely another attack against the Muslim community and it distresses Interpal to know that their fears over the lack of adequate protection for the charity sector have been validated by Barclays.”
