Teaching English as a foreign language

    Report bad ads?

I am thinking of doing a course in learning how to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL).
    Does anybody have any experience?
    Or has done a course?
Or knows of any good courses/teaching resources?

    Thanks

Re: Teaching English as a foreign language

Yeah I done it, it was really easy, you will ace it,

Depends on the teaching methods I guess, some people I know didn't like it much,

The only problem with my teacher was that her Italian accent was difficult to understand and she had a high pitched voice which was really irritating, but she was nice! But I had to drop out my ears couldn't take it, but it's easy! All the best,

P.s where did you want to teach?

Hello, I, actually, teach English as a foreign language. I'm using the competency-based approach. If you need some help, you just drop a line, or two, or more, as you like.lol.

Thank you to all who have replied.

Pk_#2, I have in mind to offer a course at the local mosque - hopefully to enable non-English speaking muslimahs to learn some English there.
It is very early days of course. I haven't even spoken to the Imam to see if it's possible, nor to the Muslim ladies to see of there is interest ...

Well, I know that many muslimahs in our town are reluctant to leave the house or their Muslim community. So although English courses are offered through the Adult Education system, many muslimahs won't go there.

I am hoping that the masjid is a place where they feel more comfortable to come.

But like I said, this is all only in my own head. Perhaps those muslimahs simply aren't interested in learning English...

Re: Teaching English as a foreign language

    Greetings,

Several years ago I did a month-long TEFL teaching course with these guys that was very good. That was my career before moving into Secondary English teaching.

It was an intensive course - at the end of the first day they had us standing up in front of a class and teaching. We were in groups of three per class, though, so that made it quite a good way of getting started!

None whatsoever. I'd always thought I'd be terribly nervous standing in front of a group of people and telling them what to do, but those fears quickly disappeared during the course. I've never been the same since!

You're teaching ESL ( English for Second Language ). Try to get another student that speaks the same language to try to help you.

When I was teaching EFL, I always paid special attention to the seating arrangements when a class had speakers of many languages in it. Two people sitting next to each other who speak the same language won't progress as quickly as others.

I soon discovered that Spaniards and Italians can understand each other very easily - their languages are so simliar it's just like listening to a different accent, apparently.

    Greetings, Mustapha

I definitely am a Christian, so I suppose I speak as a Christian.

If I sound like a Muslim, then perhaps that means that Muslims and Christians aren't as different from each other as some seem to think!
