For any budding bird watchers in the UK, or anybody else in the UK who has an hour to spare this weekend.
The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) has an annual bird counting event, when they rely on volunteers to spend one hour counting birds in their garden or local park, and to send the results in on their website. This helps the RSPB to map the British bird population.
The event takes places this weekend (24th and 25th January 2009)
Hmmm...I'm American, but I just tried to count the birds in my back yard. I stopped at fifty. Is there an issue with a declining bird population in the UK?
