the verses in the qur'an that speak of Adam's creation-specifically:
ثُمَّ سَوَّاهُ وَنَفَخَ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِهِ
But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit.
-chapter 32, first part of verse 9-
is many times taken to incorrectly mean that God breathed a part of himself into man, ie. humans have a part of God inside of them called soul/spirit.
but this is incorrect, rather man was fashioned from clay/the earth etc, then this 'material' was given a shape that made it alive, by God's spirit breathing into it.
in no way does the verse say that the spirit of God actually resided/s in humanity.
and so man is only made of himself, and his 'spirit' does not leave his 'body' except as the qur'an indicates in very rare occasions-upon death, at times at sleep- so there is no practical split between body and spirit. the spirit is one of the modes of existence for the human, ie. it is not a part of him, rather it IS him.
NB: Allah is one, not in the way of numbers, so there is no division for example applicable to his oneness, and his attributes are expressions of his true being, not that the word 'Allah' is comprised of these attributes.
