    Re: A doubt on Itikah

Brother, Itikaf is a valid sunnah and one that is not as common these days so it is worthy of us to awaken it again.

The prophet -pbuh- used to make Itikaf for the last ten days of every Ramadan, until Hajjat Al-WadaAA and he made it for twenty days.

Itikaf is permissible to have any length of time, but due to its nature, a short itikaf of an hour or so is not really meaningful, it is best to make it as long as you can. You can leave to get food and drink and use the toilet and such, or get medical attention if you need. You can also talk to your family if necessary but it's best to focus your time on being with God alone. Itikaf means that you are giving up otherwise permissible actions, like buying and selling and working and sexual intercourse with your wife.

Try to find a masjed that is quiet and where you don't know people so as not to get distracted with social pleasantries, but it needs to be a masjed with valid group prayer being held regularly, and best if it's major to hold the friday prayers. If not, you may leave your masjed to go to friday prayers and come back afterwards.

So yes, you can make Itikaf for one day, may God help you in doing more.
