An advice for the student of knowledge.

    - Some points from Sh Kamal El Mekki.

    1. Put entertainment aside.
    - Never mix the knowledge with entertainment. They are two different entities.

    2. Effort is needed.
    - There is no short cut. As a young boy, Imam Malik used to sit in front of the houses of his teachers hours daily just to gain knowledge. And the student of Imam Malik, Baqi' ibn Mukhlid, used to walk from Al Andalusia to Iraq, just to learn hadith.

    3. Learn from the scholars in your land before you travel to meet scholars from afar.
    - Do not rush and become over excited, because we never know that maybe the knowledge is available to us, in our own country.

    4. Knowledge comes drop by drop. Not all in one go.
    - The one who seeks knowledge in bulk, will also loose them in bulk. A drop of water, even though it is bit by bit, it can severe a large rock.

5.It is never over in seeking knowledge
    - There is no end and there is always more to learn. The more you study, the more you realise yo don't know.

    6. Knowledge raises your rank with Allah - in this dunia and in the hereafter.
    - Remember the story of the man whom wanted to repent and went to a village to repent.

    7. You have to spend to seek knowledge.
    - Knowledge is never cheap. Be willing to pay and make sacrifices for it.

    8. Islamic knowledge is the best of knowledge.
    - With Islamic knowledge, you can save souls in this life and in the hereafter

    9. Types of person who doesn't learn:-
    a) The person who is too shy to ask question
    b) The person who is too arrogant to learn & ask question
    c) Those who ignore the basic and focus only on the difficult ones.
d0 Those who ask non-sense and not beneficial and hypothetical.

Can someone elaborate on #6. About a man wanting to repent and went to a village to do so. . ? The message is kind of lost in this brief

Pointing out to this Hadith,I suppose.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying that a man killed ninety-nine persons and then he began to make an inquiry whether there was any way left for him for repentance. He came to a monk and asked him about that, and he said: There is no chance for repentance for you. He killed the monk also and then began to make an inquiry and moved from one village to another village where there lived pious persons, and as he had covered some distance, he was overtaken by death, but he managed to crawl upon his chest (to the side nearer to the place where the pious men lived). He died and then there was a dispute between the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment and (when it was measured) he was found to be nearer to the village where pious persons were living equal to the Space of a span and he was thus included among them.

Sahih Muslim Book 37, Number 6663

The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said:"There was among the people who came before you a man who killed ninety-nine persons. Then he asked about the most knowledgeable person on earth, and was directed to a monk, so he went to him, told him that he had killed ninety-nine people and asked if his repentance could be accepted. The monk said, 'No.' So, he killed him and completed one hundred. Then he asked about the most knowledgeable person on earth and he was directed to a scholar. He told him that he had killed one hundred people and asked whether his repentance could be accepted. The scholar said, 'Yes, what could possibly come between you and repentance? Go to such-and-such land, for in it there are people who worship Allaah. Go and worship Allaah with them, and do not go back to your own land, for it is a bad place.'So, the man set out, but when he was halfway there, the angel of death came to him, and the angels of mercy and the angels of torment began to argue over him. The angels of mercy said, 'He had repented and headed wholeheartedly to Allaah.' The angels of torment said, 'He never did any good thing.' An angel in human form came to them and they asked him to decide the matter. He said, 'Measure the distance between the two lands (his home town and the town he was heading for), and to whichever of the two he is closer is the one to which he belongs.' So they measured the distance and found that he was closer to the town for which he was heading, so the angels of mercy took him." Qataadah said,"Al-Hasan mentioned that the man, while dying, turned his chest towards that village (where he had hoped his repentance would be accepted)." [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]
