A Muslim couple have been violently assaulted in what is believed to be a retaliation attack for the terrorist atrocities in Paris.
Mohammed Khalid and his wife run the Caspian Fast Food outlet on Wellesley Road in Methil, Fife.
They were set upon by a group of around 15 people in the early hours of Sunday as they closed up.
Mr Khalid, 53, required hospital treatment for a serious injury to his eye and his wife suffered minor injuries as she tried to help him.
The couple say the men involved in the attack repeatedly cited the Paris terrorist incidents, Islamic State (IS), terrorism and subjected them to racist abuse.
Their daughter Shama Khalid posted CCTV footage of the assault onto Facebook in a bid to highlight the abuse.
She said: “This is so upsetting. I hope no one has to witness anything like this ever. My poor parents. They spent all their lives trying to protect us from things like this, only to become victims themselves.
“Dad has been in hospital for over 12 hours now, the specialist is taking a look at his eye. My dad’s eye is pretty messed up. It will take a while to heal.”
In a later post, Ms Khalid added: “My dad was set upon by a mob of 15 young thugs as he tried to shield my mum and co-workers away [from the group] who had threatened to bash them.
“My dad was pummelled to the ground where he was repeatedly kicked, racially abused and stomped while my mum screamed at them to stop.
“This is not the first time incidents of racial hatred have occurred at the takeaway.”
The video shows a group congregating outside the shop and going in, before Mr Khalid comes out and is pushed to the ground and attacked.
His wife then come out to try and help him before police officers arrive.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the group fled.
