    Halaal and Haraam foods

    Report bad ads?

I thought that it might be useful if we all put some foods (like a list) that are halaal/haraam on here so that we all know init?
please note that some products maybe halaal in some countries but not in others (i.e. in pakistan burger king chicken burger is halaal cus they use halaal meat but in england and american is haraam. so please specify country)

Country: UK and possibly US (most other countries as well)
halaal: Malteasers (nestle), Milkyway magic stars, Milkybar, Trollie Jellie, Walkers crips - all varities (but techincally we shouldnt eat the pork flavour as it is haraam to eat pork even thoug on the crisps its just the flavouring. iv tasted the chicken but it tastes nasty - bleugh) Similarly most crisps are halaal and so its not worth putting down their names.

Haraam: Haribo - this is absolute haram - they use beef gelatine and pork gelatine. even in the cola bottles!!! (the alternative is to get ur jelly sweets from trollie jelly company cus they are basically ' halaal haribo')

    hope this helped

    Re: Halaal and Haraam foods

I warn anyone judging their food status on the plain letter K (as the article suggests). A plain letter K only means the company CONSIDERS it's product to be Kosher. It is not checked by anyone (since the letter K can not be trademarked), and is no more Halal/Kosher than an unmarked food. It could technically have anything in it, and since many companies do not list baking ingredients that are not directly in the food (such as Lard, Pork Fat), you may want to consult a local authority on the matter.

Check http://www.kashrut.com/agencies/ for a number of Kosher symbols, although you will still want to check with a local authority to see if the product complies with Halal (in case of alcohol). Some ingredients mean different things in order to be Kosher, such as Gelatin (Kosher Gelatin is made from fish, rather than other animals and/or Pork).

Question E numbers and Haram Foods

    Assalamu Alaikum Brothers & Sisters,

I have a few questions. One about E numbers. I am just learning that here in America we can't eat hardly anything lol. I mean who knows whats in anything here anymore, even are vegtables are mutants and chemically engineered and full of pesticides! I've ran across something called E numbers like these
    E-100 E-110 E-120 E-140 E-141 E-153 E-160a E-210
    E-213 E-214 E-216 E-234 E-252 E-270 E-280 E-325
    E-326 E-327 E-334 E-335 E-336 E-337 E-422e E-430
    E-431 E-432 E-433 E-434 E-435 E-436 E-440 E-470
    E-471 E-472a-e E-473 E-474 E-475 E-476 E-477 E-478
    E-481 E-482 E-483 E-491 E-492 E-493 E-494 E-495
    E-542 E-570 E-572 E-631 E-635 E-640 E-904 E-920 They are all Haram

And i guess basically all those are ingredients that contain animal products and or alchohol? I am wondering how to get the latest info on them and whats the ruling on percentages if its less than part of a percent is it really bad. I have no idea what is in most of my food right now. I mean natural flavorings can be anything. Right now i dont eat anything with pork but im still consuming america meat products that are not pork. Its not practical for my family to be vegetarians and the availability of halal meat is scarce. I've also been told that alot of the halal meat in America isn't really halal. I dont have more info than that but what are the choices for people living in America? I'm not sure i am ready to cut out all the foods considered haram. Even more than half the bread, ice cream, cheese everthing has some type of animal product in it. Is starting with all Pork products and alcohol atleast the best way to start. Almost every item in my pantry has monosodiumdiglyserides and blah blah blah. I dont know........... What can we do?

Im sorry if i seem weak in my deen its just a very trying thing to find out everything you've always ate you can't. I bought some cookies the other day that i've ate for years and after i ate two i found out the chocolate chips contain alcohol! Its just dismaying.

    Any Advice?

Re: E numbers and Haram Foods

    Salam sister,

where do find these numbers? are they labeled on the food?

You should try to get halal meat from stores where you find live poultry. From there they slaughter the poultry the islamic way while you say Allahu Akbar. Most of the packaged meat you find in groceries or in whatever store are not halal anyway and should be avoided. And as for other food products, we are allowed to eat kosher food, and kosher meat also.

Re: E numbers and Haram Foods

having trouble combatting those dreaded E-numbers? Fear not, for superma..i mean.. er.. aamir is here..i guess.
Ok, firstly, when you are buying the product check the ingredients. If it says suitable for vegetarians then your allowed it. If it contains gelatine or any of the E numbers listed in your first post then don't pick it up. simple init. Most E - numbers you can eat, however, they make children go hyper. E471 I know for a fact is haraam so if you see that number present in the ingredients, don't buy it.

As for the haraam/halaal meat. hmm, I live in UK so there is plenty of halaal food places. However, i would advise you to ask fellow muslims in America where they buy their halaal food etc. go to a mosque and ask them for all the halaal food shops. Other than that, i dunno what you can do .
