    The secret behind reciting

    Tajweed

    Warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

"And read the Qur’an in slow, measured rhythmic tone. Verily, We have revealed an Arabic Qur’an. Those people whom We have given the Book, recite it the way it should be recited. They are the ones who believe in it..." (Qur'an 2:121).

It is evidently clear from the above ayat that not only is it important to read the Qur’an but compulsory.

Reciting the Qur’an consists of two parts, the Tajweed and Tarteel.

Tajweed means to read the Qur’an with the pronunciation, while Tarteel means to read the Qur’an slowly. Within Tarteel and Tajweed there is a subdivision and that is subdivision is in two parts. These two parts are Tajweed-ul-huroof (that the letter should be read correctly) and Ma’rifat-ul-wuquf (that one is aware and knows when to stop during recitation, pause and break).

These rules are vital for someone to read the Qur’an correctly.

Within Tajweed there are certain fields which require covering. Depending on what level you’re on. Firstly you need to learn how to pronounce the Arabic huroof correctly and then you move on to the rules.

    The rules consist of:
    Qalqalah
    Noon and Meem mushadadah
Non vowel meem, meem sakina rules
Non vowel noon, noon sakina rules
    Ithhaar rules
    Idqhaam rules
    Iqlaab rules
    Madd rules
    Non vowel laam
    Types of hamzah

Although it may seem quite long it is quite easy to pick up especially if you read along with a sheikh while learning the Qur’an.

In addition, perhaps you’re aware that the Qur’an has different Qiraat. Although sometimes the word is used in a context in which I don’t understand (perhaps it means something else in Urdu). So you need to be sure when you are learning Qur’an you stick to one Qiraat, the most common used Qiraat by most of the sheikh’s such as Sheikh Sudais, Sheikh Shuraim wa Sheikh Minshawi (amazing voice! Mashallah) is the Hafs Qiraat. Also having a mu3llim helps when memorizing Qur’an.
Perhaps for those who do not know the rules, a mu3llim can teach you them. Or someone here who is hafiz and remembers them can post if they are free.

(Any errors made is due to my fault so forgive me and please do state if you see a mistake written above)
