    Grave worshipping

Grave worshipping and building containing graves.

The only accepted religion in sight of Allah is Islam. It is best religion, a way of life. It is perfectly in accordance with human nature also known as Fitrah. All human beings are born with natural tendency to seek the Creator, worshipping Him alone. Through this, they wonder over how the earth and massive universe were created in such way that there could have been a Creator Who cannot be doubted, and Who is All Knowing, All Hearing, and Perfect.

But Shaytan has managed to mislead mankind. Which is why Allah sent His Prophets and Messengers to mankind to guide them to the correct path. Their message was nothing than Tawheed.

Tawheed is core of Islam. Everyone needs to know about who Allah is. They need to be taught about His Names and Attributes.

Unfortunately due to the ignorance being widespread over Muslim world. There appears an act of shirk which is grave worshipping. However this is not new.

Visiting the graveyard is sunnah for men only, if one makes intention to follow the guidance of Prophet peace be upon him regarding the graveyard. Women are forbidden from visiting graves in accordance to ahadith. There are 4 of them, each of which is narrated by different companions. They are hasan. One of them is put here.

    Abu Hurairah narrated:

"Indeed the Messenger of Allah cursed the women who visit the graves."

    Hasan (Darussalam)

    Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1056
    In-book : Book 10, Hadith 92
    English translation : Vol. 2, Book 5, Hadith 1056
    Jamiat Tirmidhi

However If one comes to graveyard just to seek dead's help or sacrifice animals to them. Then he has committed shirk and has left Islam.

Our Prophet peace be upon him warned us about such act. When the Muslims were still new, and Islam was still developing during era of Prophet peace be upon him, visiting graveyards was previously forbidden, due to wide spread of dead worshiping at that time, later then ir became allowed for one to visit graveyard provided that he does not come to commit shirk there. Prophet peace be upon him warned us about building structures over graves which has become very common, unfortunately.

Allah tells us that He is nearer to us than jugular vein through His Knowledge and that He also orders us to make duas to Him only. Supplication is an act of worship.

    Al-Baqarah 2:186

    English - Mohsin Khan/Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.

    It is reported in hadith:

    Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir:

that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Supplication is the worship." Then he recited: 'And your Lord said: 'Call upon Me, I will answer you. Verily, those who scorn my My worship, they will surely enter Hell in humiliation (43:72).'"

    Sahih (Darussalam)

    English : Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3247
    Arabic : Book 47, Hadith 3555
    Jamiat Tirmidhi

Building structures over graveyard is one of the worst act ever. It opens path to shirk. It is reported in ahadith:

    Hadith‏‏
    Narrated `Aisha:

Um Habiba and Um Salama mentioned about a church they had seen in Ethiopia in which there were pictures. They told the Prophet (ﷺ) about it, on which he said, "If any religious man dies amongst those people they would build a place of worship at his grave and make these pictures in it. They will be the worst creature in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection."

    Sahih al-Bukhari 427
    In-book : Book 8, Hadith 77
    USC-MSA web (English) : Vol. 1, Book 8, Hadith 419 (deprecated)
    Sahih Bukhari

Subhan Allah! Prophet peace be upon him told us that the people who builds structures over graves will be worst creatures.

When he was on deathbed, he cursed the Jews and Christians for taking their Prophets grave as place of worship, as to warn the Muslims and later generations

    Narrated `Aisha and Ibn `Abbas:

On his death-bed Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) put a sheet over his-face and when he felt hot, he would remove it from his face. When in that state (of putting and removing the sheet) he said, "May Allah's Curse be on the Jews and the Christians for they build places of worship at the graves of their prophets." (By that) he intended to warn (the Muslim) from what they (i.e. Jews and Christians) had done.

    Sahih al-Bukhari 3453

We need to stop ahead and focus on learning Tawheed, which will protect us from shirk, In sha Allah.

May Allah protect us from all fitna and evils.

    Re: Grave worshipping

    السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
    جزاك الله خيرا

Is Darussalam the bookstore? And are they an authority for grading hadith? See:

    Abu Hurairah narrated:

"Indeed the Messenger of Allah cursed the women who visit the graves."

    Hasan (Darussalam)
