    Death...then what?

    Report bad ads?

    Selamun Aleykum friends.

I have this question I've been struggling with. I am hoping you can help me Inshaallah.
    When someone dies...what happens next?

The reason I am asking this...(for what I know):
Heaven and Hell are accessible after Judgement Day:
-We need to walk over the Siraat Brigde (which will be wide for believers and very narrow for non-believers)
-Those who make it to the other side will reach Heaven. Those who fall will enter Hell.
-Both Heaven and Hell are eternal.

    Until here it is clear.

But now, those who have imaan with the weight of a mustard seed will eventually reach Heaven...and then there are many others who have Imaan but have made many sins in their lives and many many others who are non-believers but have done a lot of good deeds in their lifes. what will happen to these people?
what will happen to people who are already dead long before judgement day?

until today I haven't seen any answer how the process after ones death until judgement day looks like.

I have this idea though how it might look like....but please correct me where I am wrong:

-I think after death one simply waits in the grave for the judgement day (Barzaq).
-time in thehereafter is experienced indivually. one day can be as short as a second or as long as a year depending on the indivuals deeds during lifetime.
-believers will never enter true Hell nor will non-believers ever enter true Heaven since both Heaven and Hell are eternal.
-instead, the Barzaq can be one of the gardens of Heaven, or one of the pits of Hell.
-during Barzaq, one will be questioned by Moonkar and Nakir.
-Believers with sins will be punished in the Barzaq.
-Non-Believers with good deeds will get their rewards in the Barzaqh.
-at Judgement day...believers will no longer have sins....non-believers will no longer have good deeds.
-therefore Eternal life in Heaven or eternal life in Hell.

In the end it is all about believing or non-believing which determines Heaven or Hell.

This is what I think the process would probably be in global form aftr one's death...because such a system would make sense to me...but I cannot back this idea up with actual Hadith, sura or fatwa.

what do you think about it? or if you have something different...please share.

    ve esselamun aleykum.

    Re: Death...then what?

I havent really thought about it tbh..

How can anyone explain something that nobody should have knowledge of?

..getting knocked out really wont clarify the matter..

    And it hasn't. :|
    ..
    ..
Just the way things happen reaffirms me in faith.. and thats about it.

I dont really dwell upon it.. just understand it as part of the fundamental pillars of faith..

    And that may sound dismissive..

But.. im trying not to be nutz here.

Sorry, but I cannot accept that as an answer brother. This is a general answer you can give to every question.

    Q: How does electricity work?
    A: Allah makes that possible.
Q:How does sunrise and sunsets work?
A: Just the way things happen

Of course we all know, everything happens by the permission of Allah. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't investigate. If nobody asked such questions, and just accepted the answer that things happen just the way Allah wants it, we would not make any progress in knowledge and science.

Sorry, in the meantime I forgot to introduce myself.
I am a Hanafi Muslim living in Germany. I am 38 years old, born and raised in the Netherlands. My roots are Turkish originally. Got married two years ago and have one beautiful 1 year old daughter.
I've been to Mecca in 2007 and fullfilled my Hadj duty Inshaallah.

I work as an electrical engineer, so I am a science kind of person. In my opinion, everything should have a logical answer. You can find your explanation if you investigate deep enough.

If we believe Islam is the true religion (and we believe and know that Alhamdoulillah),
and if we believe Allah has created this universe, live on earth, and all the natural laws and forces...
and science is just based on investigating these natural laws and all Allahs creations...
then science and Islam can never contradict each other.

Because why would Allah create one thing, but teach us something different?

That is why I think everything...even within Islam...should be logically explainable...you just need to look for it and investigate.
Finding answers to such questions brought me closer to my religion and strenghtened my faith in Allah. every answer is like a puzzle piece falling into place.
That is what inspires me to search further and investigate.

I could recommend that to everyone

    Re: Death...then what?

    It is confusing isn't it?

I am not claiming to be learned or anything, but I think there is a distinction but there are some fuzzy areas...

I believe that in the grave you will be questioned about your faith. For those who pass will rest in peace until judgment day. I'm not sure what happens to non believers, though. Torment in the grave or thrown in hell?

Then we will be raised on judgment day to account for our deeds. So we will have our tallied deeds. This may look favourable to us at this point... We may even pass the 'Sirat bridge', as you call it...

And then we will also have to balance out our deeds against others whom we wronged. So, we may end up giving away our good deeds to the person we have wronged. If we have run out of good deeds to compensate, then we will start to take away he wronged person's sins as part of our own... (as what our beloved prophet (pbuh) described of a 'bankrupt' person in akhirah).

Then, after the process is done, at the Mercy of Allah, those who deserve it will enter jannah.

This is my simple understanding. If I am out, then do correct me. (Even if nobody does, it does not mean that it is correct)..

For what I know there are several grades of paying for your sins. The easiest way is during your lifetime. every suffering on earth will lighten your burden...this doesn't mean you should hurt yourself deliberately of course...that doesn't count...but the hard time you are having on Earth...your trouble...the pain you suffered do count...
then there is the suffering in the grave...this is much more severe...but still less than the suffering in Hell.

Yes for the biggest part you are correct...this is also how I know it...except for a small detail...I thought the Sirat brigde was on the way to the Jannah...The Jannah is on the other side of the bridge...so if you make it to the other side...then you will reach Jannah and there will be no longer suffering.

But of course I could be wrong...the issue here is very fuzzy indeed.

Hope there is someone who could help us with this.

    Re: Death...then what?

Man’s life is divided into three sections:

1 – The life of this world, which ends with death.
2 – The life in al-barzakh, which starts after death and ends when the Hour begins.
3 – The life of the Hereafter, which begins after the people are raised from their graves, and is spent either in Paradise or in Hell.

So the life of al-barzakh lasts from after a person dies until he is resurrected, whether he is buried in a grave or not, whether he is burned or eaten by wild animals. This life (in al-barzakh) will either be filled with delight, or it will be hellish, and the grave will either be one of the gardens of Paradise or one of the ditches of Hell. If it's a good soul, a window to heaven will be opened into his grave for him to feel the fragrance and comfort of heaven. But for an evil soul a window to hell will open so he can feel the fire and discomfort of hellfire till day of Resurrection, a reminder to each of what to look forward to.

It was narrated that al-Bara’ (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
We went out with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) for the funeral of a man from among the Ansaar. We came to the grave and when (the deceased) was placed in the lahd, the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sat down and we sat around him, as if there were birds on our heads (i.e., quiet and still). In his hand he had a stick with which he was scratching the ground. Then he raised his head and said, “Seek refuge with Allaah from the torment of the grave”, two or three times. Then he said, “When the believing slave is about to depart this world and enter the Hereafter, there come down to him from heaven angels with white faces like the sun, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. They bring with them shrouds from Paradise and perfumes from Paradise. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head, and he says, ‘O good soul, come forth to forgiveness from Allaah and His pleasure.’

Then it comes out easily like a drop of water from the the mouth of a waterskin. When he seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for an instant before they take it and put it in that shroud with that perfume, and there comes from it a fragrance like the finest musk on the face of the earth. Then they ascend and they do not pass by any group of angels but they say, ‘Who is this good soul?’ and they say, ‘It is So and so the son of So and so, calling him by the best names by which he was known in this world, until they reach the lowest heaven. They ask for it to be opened to them and it is opened, and (the soul) is welcomed and accompanied to the next heaven by those who are closest to Allaah, until they reach the seventh heaven. Then Allaah says: ‘Record the book of My slave in ‘Illiyoon in the seventh heaven, and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I will return them and from it I will bring them forth once again.’ So his soul is returned to his body and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Allaah.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘My religion is Islam.’ They say, ‘Who is this man who was sent among you?’ He says, ‘He is the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).’ They say, ‘What did you do?’ He says, ‘I read the Book of Allaah and I believed in it.’ Then a voice calls out from heaven, ‘My slave has spoken the truth, so prepare for him a bed from Paradise and clothe him from Paradise, and open for him a gate to Paradise.’

Then there comes to him some of its fragrance, and his grave is made wide, as far as he can see. Then there comes to him a man with a handsome face and handsome clothes, and a good fragrance, who says, ‘Receive the glad tidings that will bring you joy this day.’ He says, ‘Who are you? Your face is a face which brings glad tidings.’ He says, ‘I am your righteous deeds.’ He says, ‘O Lord, hasten the Hour so that I may return to my family and my wealth.’ But when the disbelieving slave is about to depart this world and enter the Hereafter, there come down to him from heaven angels with black faces, bringing sackcloth, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head, and he says, ‘O evil soul, come forth to the wrath of Allaah and His anger.’ Then his soul disperses inside his body, then comes out cutting the veins and nerves, like a skewer passing through wet wool. When he seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for an instant before they take it and put it in that sackcloth, and there comes from it a stench like the foulest stench of a dead body on the face of the earth.

Then they ascend and they do not pass by any group of angels but they say, ‘Who is this evil soul?’ and they say, ‘It is So and so the son of So and so, calling him by the worst names by which he was known in this world, until they reach the lowest heaven. They ask for it to be opened to them and it is not opened.” Then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) recited
    (interpretation of the meaning):

“for them the gates of heaven will not be opened, and they will not enter Paradise until the camel goes through the eye of the needle” [al-A’raaf 7:40]

He said: “Then Allaah says, ‘Record the book of My slave in Sijjeen in the lowest earth, and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I will return them and from it I will bring them forth once again.’ So his soul is cast down.” Then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) recited the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“and whoever assigns partners to Allaah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him to a far off place” [al-Hajj 22:31]

He said: “Then his soul is returned to his body, and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t know.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t know.’ Then a voice calls out from heaven, ‘Prepare for him a bed from Hell and clothe him from Hell, and open for him a gate to Hell.’ Then there comes to him some of its heat and hot winds, and his grave is constricted and compresses him until his ribs interlock. Then there comes to him a man with an ugly face and ugly clothes, and a foul stench, who says, ‘Receive the bad news, this is the day that you were promised.’ He says, ‘Who are you? Your face is a face which forebodes evil.’ He says, ‘I am your evil deeds.’ He says, ‘O Lord, do not let the Hour come, do not let the Hour come.’”

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4753; Ahmad, 18063 – this version was narrated by him. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1676.

The torment in the grave will vary according to the sins committed by the person in this world, whether he was a kaafir(disbeliever) or a disobedient Muslim.

By reading both of your first two posts I can judge that you have studied or concentrated a lot about the after life especially when you say that life after death can be a split second to some Muhmin whereas for a sinner will be lengthy one . ( hope you brought that point from the glorious Quran, right ?)

But I do not agree with your the above bolded point in red . why ?

Kindly read post # 12 here

Mostly overlooked Hadith and verses and their wisdom

inshallah I will share further some more points from my Allah's given knowledge though am still learning too. And please put the particular question, again you are more searching about ? I understood it as this , do correct me if am wrong.

Q- How are the sinners (even kafirs who have been burned) punished in grave when the hell is after sirat bridge ?? right ?

    jazakallah khair

    My Sect : No Sect

Just a Muslim with Glorious Quran and (hadith) sunnah as my guide as in verse 41:33 '' And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, "Indeed, I am of the Muslims."

Im glad you are not satisfied with the answer, neither am i.

You say that science and an understanding of allah swt.. cannot contradict each other..

    This is not entirely true.

So many things are yet to be understood by science.

And as it is, the example of knowledge and understanding.. is like that of science..

Scientific knowledge is not the precursor to belief in allah swt..

Not all scientists believe in allah swt even after they learn what they know.

And the same can be said of trying to learn of the afterlife and the reality of the situation..

Rather the more important aspects are how we conduct ourselves and how our belief influences those around us..

How our time and actions are accepted by allah swt.

..and in this even the most unlearned person has hope beyond measure.

The contradiction is in the understanding that those with knowledge and those without.. are not the same.

So we go back to the scientists..

Why are all scientists not muslim?

So in my understanding.. or lack therein..

Leads me to say that those given authority are not the same as those without it.

Those who lead and those who follow do so with varying amounts of intellect and intent..

But ultimately the will of allah swt raises and lowers.

And there is no compulsion to follow.

May allah swt have mercy upon you and your family.

And guide you to a paradise fitting.

..i honestly dont know about the afterlife lol.. my friend is horrible..

The things he sends out before himself are as clear as day.

Maybe in my ignorance i would have stopped him..

In his following had been my destruction

    ...Probably.

Everytime he makes a move im awake for it.. sorry i meant everytime he reads UP on it.. i dont forget.

Two sides of the same coin..

Everyone gets a share of what they are part of.. past, present and future.

Sorry, you misunderstood what I wrote. I did not claim that.
Of course there are many things that still remain unknown by science. The complexity of Allah's creations are often far beyond our understandings. we can only investigate and understand the easier mechanisms.

I did not claim that all scientists believe in Allah. What I did claim is...no matter what a scientists believes...the conclusions scientists make based on their research and investigation (if they did not make an error somewhere of course, and it is based on the truth) can NEVER contradict Islam. This because the thing what they are investigating is one of Allah's creations...and like I said, Allah would never create one thing, and teach us something completely different in Islam.

This was merely a question stuck in my head for a long time and I searched for an answer.

A scientist simply investigates some of Allah's creations. It does not require for him to have knowledge of Islam for that. If his investigation is based on the truth and he did not oversee some important aspect, he cannot get a different answer (conclusion) than what Islam teaches us.

    I understand,

Unfortunately every aspect of the life after death seemingly contradicts the way the universe works.. contradicts science.

If you expect to reconsile both..

Then you have to start dealing in metaphore/analogy or world breaking events.

..also the flatliners remake is out now.. but its a horror film.

Lets leave out death and the afterlifr for a moment..

And concentrate on the miracles of the prophets pbu them..

If you can quantify or rationalise them..

Part of the same problem at the heart of it.

Unfortunately i dont know how extensively they are documented.
