Exclamation 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah (OP)

4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

Dhul Hijjah is the sacred month of Hajj. So blessed are the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah that according to a large group of commentators of the Qur’an, Allah swears by these 10 days in Surah Fajr:

Allah the Most High & Exalted says: By the Dawn; By the ten Nights; (89:1-2)

This oath substantiates the greatness and sacredness of these ten nights in the eyes of Allah. This is an extra ordinary oath; it is very reliable and significant and the wise men can understand that by this oath, Allah too attaches great importance and value to the ten nights of Dhul Hijjah.

The Prophet (Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam) has said regarding these Blessed days:

"There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The people asked , "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?" He said, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out, giving himself and his wealth up for the cause (of Allah), and came back with nothing." (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

It is clear then that these 10 days possess tremendous blessings and excellence. Therefore we should spend these 10 blessed days & nights in intensive worship & virtuous acts. Therefore we cannot possibly afford to miss out on such immense rewards otherwise we will definitely be in utter regret in the Hereafter!

The following are recommended acts to do during the blessed 10 days and Nights of Dhul Hijjah:

    1. Fasting the 9 days of Dhul Hijjah:

It is recommended to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l Hijjah, especially the 9th which is the blessed day of Arafah. Allah’s Messenger (Salallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) encouraged us to do righteous deeds in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah; and indeed fasting is one of the best of deeds. Almighty Allah says, “All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it.”’ (Al-Bukhari)

Note: The 10th of Dhul Hijjah is the Day of Eid ul Adha and is prohibitively disliked and sinful to fast on this day.

Forgiveness for 2 years of sins (Minor sins) for fasting on the day of Arafah:

Abu Qatada (Ra) related that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Fasting the Day of `Arafah (f: 9th of Dhu’l Hijjah) expiates for two years, one prior and one forthcoming. And fasting the Day of `Ashura (f: 10th of Muharram) expiates for the past year.” [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah]

Therefore we should try our utmost to fast all the blessed 9 days of Dhul Hijjah particularly the 9th oh Dhul Hijjah which is the day of Arafah. If not then we should at least fast as many as we can possibly can as we may not get this opportunity again next year as life is uncertain and we should never procrastinate on doing good actions.

Tip 1: Eat light & hydrate well: If you will be staying up until Fajr, then the more you eat, the harder it will be for you to stay up and the less productive you will be! Keep some water with you at all times. This will help you stay up, feel energised and refreshed and have a clearer mind.

    2. Reciting Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Tahleel & Takbeer abundantly:

It is Sunnah to recite takbeer (Allahu-akbar), tahmeed (Alhamdulillah), tahleel (Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), and tasbeeh (SubhanAllah) during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. These words should be recited abundantly in the masjids, homes, streets and in every place where it is permissible to remember & glorify Allah.

‘That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (reward of Hajj in the Hereafter and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allah on appointed days, over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice). (22:28)

Reciting the Takbeeraat-e-Tashreeq from the 9th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd.

Translation: "Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and all praises are for Allah only."

It is Waajib (compulsory) for men to recite the above after every Fardh Salaat from Fajr of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah until Asr of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah audibly. Women should recite it silently.

Tip 2: Remember & Glorify Allah no matter what you are doing: This is particularly easy as one can remember Allah anywhere and at anytime whether it is during work or any daily activity.

    3. Doing the Qurbani (Sacred sacrifice of a livestock Animal):

The Qurbani is the sacrifice of a livestock animal during Eid ul-Adha. It is the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (As). It is a means of getting closer to Allah. It is obligatory upon every sane adult who is not a traveller and can afford it (Wealth equal to or more than nisab). It is performed on the days of sacrifice which is the 10th, 11th or 12th of Dhul Hijjah. One may sacrifice a thousand animals on days other than these, but it will never be regarded or considered a Qurbani. Therefore the Qurbani is a sacred act which can only be done during the 3 days of Dhul Hijjah as specified. Regarding the Qurbani, Allah says in the Qur'an:

"It is not their meat, nor their blood, that reaches Allah, It is their piety that reaches Allah" (22:37)

The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) says regarding the Qurbani:

“There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbaani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgement with its horn, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart.” (Tirmidhi V1 pp275, Ibne Maajah V1 pp226)

Tip 3: Doing Qurbani is very easy nowadays: Doing Qurbani during the days of sacrifice is a means of getting closer to Allah and gaining immense rewards. Nowadays it is much easier for us to fulfil this sacred act by the mere click of a button over the internet where we can buy an animal to be sacrificed on the various established Muslim charity websites.

    4. Doing more good deeds than usual:

The Prophet (Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days (Dhul Hijjah)." (Bukhari)

Therefore we should increase the amount of good deeds we do in order to take advantage of this blessed time where good deeds are increased significantly.

Tip 4: Complete all tasks beforehand & do not waste this precious time: Make arrangements to clear as many of your pending tasks as possible or make a plan for tackling them later. This way, one is free to worship during the 10 days and nights without being distracted by worldly tasks. We must make a firm intention that during these blessed 10 days, we will not take part in idle talk, watch TV, play computer games or spend time on the social media. There are 355 days in the year for all that – if you really cannot resist. This is just 10 days! There will be indeed an utter loss and regret for those of us who waste these blessed 10 days.

The following 7 deeds are amongst the best actions we can do during these blessed 10 days:

    1. Reciting the Qur’an abundantly:

Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” So increase your recitation of the Qur’an to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well. (At-Tirmidhi)

So if one letter of the Qur'an is equivalent to ten good deeds then imagine how much reward there is for reading each letter during these blessed 10 days which are said to be the best days of the year! Subhanallah!

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas & Anas Ibn Malik (RA) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, ‘Whoever recited Surah Zilzilah (99) would get the reward of reciting half the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Kaafirun (109) would get a reward as if reading a quarter of the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Ikhlas (112) would get a reward as if reading one third of the Qur’an’. (At-Tirmidhi 2818/A)

Therefore let us recite as much of the Qur’an as we can during these 10 days and nights and aim to finish at least one Qur'an if we can. After that we should continue reciting the Qur'an throughout the rest of the year, for there is no better worship of Allah than to recite the Qur'an!

Note: It is also very relevant to read the story of Ibrahim (As) which will give one a deeper understanding of the rituals of Hajj & the Qurbani.

    2. Showing exemplary character:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Nothing will be heavier on the Day of Resurrection in the Scale of the believer than good manners. Allah hates one who utters foul or coarse language.” [At- Tirmidhi].

So we must aim to be the best in character during these blessed days and nights and continue to do so for the rest of the year. We must not argue, swear, backbite, slander or gossip.

    3. Giving much to charity:

As the rewards of doing good deeds during these days are increased significantly then we should also give as much as we can in charity.

Allah promised forgiveness of our sins if we give in charity and give to the poor and needy. He honoured our charity and described it as a “ beautiful loan to Allah “ to emphasise that we are doing something good that He loves, and that He himself will pay our loan back to us doubled:

"If ye loan to Allah a beautiful loan, He will double it to your (credit), and He will grant you Forgiveness: for Allah is Most Ready to appreciate (service), Most Forbearing." At-Taghabun 64:17

    4. Respecting & honouring our parents:

Islam teaches us that of the most beloved deeds to Allah, having respect for one's parents is second only to that of prayer and is greater than that of fighting in His cause.

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ood (Ra), who observed: "I asked Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) which deed was the best." He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'The Prayer at its appointed hour.' I (again) asked: "Then what?" He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'Kindness to the parents.' I (again) asked: "Then what?" He replied: 'Earnest struggle (Jihad) in the cause of Allah.' I refrained from asking any more questions for fear of annoying him. (Sahih Muslim: 120)

    5. Doing many Nawafil (Superogatory) Prayers:

Rabi'ah ibn Malik al-Aslami reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alehi wasallam) said:"Ask (anything)." Rabi'ah said: "I ask of you to be your companion in paradise." The Prophet said: "Or anything else?" Rabi'ah said: "That is it." The Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said to him: "Then help me by making many prostrations (i.e., supererogatory prayers)." (Muslim)

The following are Sunnah & Nawafil prayers to pray during the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah:

    - Pray 12 Raka'ahs of Sunnah daily: - 2 Sunnah of Fajr, 4 Sunnah & 2 Sunnah of Dhuhr & 2 Sunnah of Maghrib

Umm Habibah Ramilah bint Abu Sufyan (RA) narrated she heard the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying: “A house will be built in Paradise for every Muslim who offers twelve units of Prayers other than the obligatory ones in day & night, to seek pleasure of Allah.” (Muslim)

    - Salaatul Duhaa: - (Can be prayed from 20 minutes after sunrise up until 20 minutes before Dhuhr begins)

So we should remain seated after Fajr prayer & recite the Qur'an or do Dhikr up until 20 minutes after Sunrise & pray Salaatul Duhaa. If not then we can pray it anytime before midday.

'Salat al-Dhuhaa consists of 2 - 12 Rakaats & it is preferable to perform 8 Rakaats.' (Raddul Mukhtaar vol.1 pg.505)

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said: Whoever prayed twelve rakaats (before midday), then Allah will, as a reward, prepare a palace of gold for him in Paradise. (Mishkat, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

    - 4 Sunnah, 2 Sunnah & 2 Nawafil of Dhuhr:

Umm Habibah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever sticks to the habit of offering four rak`ahs before Noon Prayer & four rak`ahs after it, Allah will shield him against the Hell-Fire.” (Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhi)

    - 4 Raka'ahs Sunnah of Asr:

The Prophet (Sallallaahu 'Alaihi wa sallam) said:"May Allaah have Mercy on the one who offers four (Raka'ahs) before 'Asr prayer."(Abu Dawud)

    - Two Raka'ahs Sunnah after entering Masjid:

Abu Qatadah (RA) narrated the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as saying: “If any one of you enters a mosque, he should pray two rak`ahs before sitting.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

    - Tahiyyatul Wudu: - 2 Raka'ahs Sunnah after doing Wudu (Ablution)

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying to Bilal (RA): “Tell me about the best of your deeds (i.e. one which you deem the most rewarding) since your embracing Islam because I heard your footsteps in front of me in Paradise.” Bilal (RA) replied: “I do not consider any act of mine more rewarding than that whenever I make ablution at any time of night or day, I perform Prayer for as much as was destined for me to do.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)”

    - Tahajjud prayer: (The Night Vigil prayer) - Can be prayed straight after Isha up until the break of Dawn

Imam Abu Sa'id al-Khadimi said, "There is scholarly consensus (ijma`) that among the best of virtuous acts is the night vigil prayer." [al-Bariqa al-Mahmudiyya Sharh al-Tariqa al-Muhammadiyya]

The Most virtuous Nawafil (Voluntary) prayer is the Tahajjud prayer as it enables one to get closer to Allah (glorified and exalted be He). It can be prayed after Isha’ until just before Fajr begins. The best recitation of the Qur’an is done during Tahajjud prayer. You should recite as much of the Qur’an as you have memorised. In the long prostrations, beg Allah (glorified and exalted be He) for forgiveness and mercy and surely He will never turn away his slaves who beg of him during this prayer.

Note: During the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah we should aim to pray Tahajjud every night. If not then we should pray it in as many nights as we possibly can. When fasting during the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah one should awaken a little earlier for Suhur, make Wudu & pray between 2-12 Raka'ahs of Tahajjud. The last third portion of the night is the most blessed part of the night in which Dua's are more readily accepted during this time. So by praying Tahajjud it gives us the best opportunity to get closer to Allah & to make sincere Dua, repenting for our sins past & present & to beg, cry & ask of Allah for whatever we want.

    6. Increase in glorification & remembrance of Allah:

As his creations we should all remember & glorify our creator as much as we possibly can, but even more so during these blessed days:

The following are some easy and very beneficial Dhikr and glorification we can do throughout these Blessed Days and Nights:

    - Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd

    - Subhanallah

    - Alhamdulillah

    - Allahu Akbar

    - Laa ilaha ilallah

    - LA HAWLA WA LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH

    - Asthaghfirullah

    - SUB-HAN'ALLAH HIL AZEEM WA BI-HAM'DIHI,

    - Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-aliyyi-l-azīm

    - Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuhyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abada, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa alā kulli Shay-in qadīr

    Or the shortened version:

    - Laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer

One can also recite the durood that one recites towards the end of one's Salaah or the shortest durood: Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim

    7. Making much Dua:

Almighty Allah says in the Qur'an:

"When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me." [2:186]

The place of duaa is so high to Allah, that the Prophet(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim) had said: "Nothing is more honourable to Allah the Most High than du`a." [Sahih al-Jami` no.5268].

Almighty Allah also said: "The most excellent worship is Du'a." [Sahih Al-Jami` no. 1133]

We should busy ourselves in Dua during these 10 blessed days and nights particularly on the night and day of Arafat which is the 9th of Dhul Hijjah. Duas are also readily accepted during fasting, especially just before Suhur ends and just before breaking the fast.

Tip 5. Making life changes: We should make the necessary changes to improve ourselves as Muslims and what better time to make such changes than during these blessed 10 days where we can change our lives forever. We must internalise these changes and make a firm commitment to Allah (glorified and exalted be He), and maybe that he will wipe off our sins until we become newborn babies, In sha Allah.

    Finally:

Therefore let us make the best of these blessed days and make the necessary changes so that we may live a life devoted to Allah. We should aim to rectify our condition and live for the Hereafter rather than living for this world which can end at any second for any one of us. Allah tells us In the Qur'an to enter fully into our deen (Way of life) and not partly:

O believers enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of Shaitan, surely he is your clear-cut enemy.... (Surah Al-Baqara, Ayah 208-210)

So then will we not make Islam a FULL part of our lives? This is our best opportunity and if we don't grab it now and death comes to us then surely we will regret it for ETERNITY! Surely there is no logic in putting all of our efforts into a short, temporary life which can end at any second and neglect that which will last forever. Knowing this then why do we put everything into this life and neglect the Hereafter? Time is passing us by and we are blinded by the deception of this life. Time is not on our side. This life is very short indeed. It is like a quick passing phase. It is a short stopover in our journey to the eternal Afterlife.

This short life is our only one opportunity to build our Hereafter. In the Hereafter we will want to be taken back to this life in order to live it again so that we can worship Allah. But we will not be able to. So let us prepare for the Hereafter and our inevitable death before preperations are made for our funerals.

May Allah enable us to make the best of these blessed days and Nights and make it a means of our success in this world and the Next. Ameen

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

    Report bad ads?

Al-Hasan Al-Basrī (Ra) once said during the funeral of a man:

"Make full use of your health & free time before the day of distress & accounts comes upon you."

If we waste this life then we may I be of those whom Allah describes: "Therein (in Hell) they will cry-out, "Lord, take us out of here. We shall act righteously and behave different to what we did before." They will be told, "Did We not allow you to live long enough for you to seek guidance? Did We not send a warner to you? Suffer (the torment). There is no one to help the unjust." (35;37)

So this could be our last opportunity. We are in the best of days so let us turn to Allah in repentance and make a firm intention to obey and get closer to him.

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

The Blessed Day of Arafaat is Thursday 31st August 2017

The best day of the entire year is upon us - The blessed day of Arafat - is on Thurs 31st Aug 2017 from Fajr .

10 things we can do to make the best of the Blessed Day of Arafat:

Out of 365 days in a year, the day of Arafat has been singled out to be the best day of all. Even better than any day of Ramadan. Therefore we cannot possibly afford to miss out on the immense rewards that are available on this most special day. This is a day where we can change our lives forever & get closer to Allah & gain forgiveness for an entire lifetime of sins:

The Prophet (SallAllaahu Alayhi wa sallam) said: "There is no day when Allah sets free more slaves from the Fire than the day of 'Arafat. He (Allaah) draws near, then He boasts about them before the Angels and says: 'What do these people want?'" (Muslim)

It is a day when the reward of good deeds are increased significantly. For eg. If there was a sale on where everything was buy 1 get 70 free you would see people queuing for miles and even trampling on each other to get such a deal. But in reality the day of Arafat is far more valuable than this. So we should grab as much as we can on this blessed day!

The following is a worship plan for the day of Arafat:

    1. Intend to fast on this special day: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah. He replied, "Fasting on the day of Arafat is an expiation (for sins) for the preceding year and the following year...[Muslim]

SubhanAllah! Refer to your local Masjid prayer timetable to for Suhur (When Fajr begins) and Iftaar (When Maghrib begins) times.

    2. Prepare food for Suhur before sleeping and sleep early in order to awaken a little earlier for the Tahajjud prayer. Surely Allah listens to the prayers of those who ask of him in the depths of the night when most people are asleep.

Ensure you eat something for Suhoor as there is a blessing during this time, even if it is a date, and then pray Tahajjud & intense Dua until Fajr begins.

    3. Pray the 5 prayers on time - In congregation at the Masjid for men.

    4. Pray the 12 Rakah Sunnah's on this day - For a reward of a palace in Jannah! ( 2 Rakah Sunnah - Fajr, 4 & 2 Rakah Sunnah - Dhuhur, 2 Rakah Sunnah - Maghrib & 2 Rakah Sunnah - Isha)

    5. Pray many Nawafil (Voluntary) prayers
as much as possible on this day particularly Tahajjud which is the best Nawafil prayer - 2-8 Rakah just before Fajr begins, 2 - 8 Rakah Nawafil Salaatul Duha between 20 mins after sunrise until before Dhuhur begins, 2 Rakah Nawafil in Dhuhur, 2 Rakah Nawafil in Maghrib, 2 Rakah in Isha & 2 Rakah Nawafil in Isha. 2 Rakah Nawafil after every Wudu & 2 Rakah Nawafil whenever at the Masjid.

    6. Recite the following constantly during this blessed day no matter what you are doing: Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha ilallah.

Make a target of reciting at least 1000 each or however many is realistic for you. While doing so think of what you are saying and also contemplate on the greatness of Allah.

    7. Recite the Quran as much as possible. Make a target for yourself. Three Juz (chapter), two, one, half a Juz, or even a page.

    8. Make much Dua on this blessed day:

The day of Arafaat is the day of Dua. We should make a pre prepared list of what we want to ask Allah on this auspicious day.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "The best du'aa is du'aa of the day of 'Arafah...(Tirmidhi)

Repent and thank Allah and ask of him your hearts desires, needs and wants. Make sure you make the most of the blessed times to make Dua which are 20-30 minutes before Fajr begins & 20-30 minutes before Maghrib begins.

    9. Give much Charity as much as you canafford on this day - whether it is £1000, £500, £250 £100, £50, £25, £10 or whatever change you have. If you have not given Qurbani yet then there is no better time than on this blessed day:

    10. Take every opportunity to do good deeds on this blessed day whether it is by serving your parents, being good to your neighbours, being the best towards other people no matter how they are towards you solely to please Allah.

Good manners & character are the heaviest on the good deed scales so be the best person you can be. Even a smile to your fellow Muslim or moving an object from the path is reward. Every act can be a reward with good intentions and sincerity.

Please forward to as many people as you can so all can benefit from this as it will be a great reward for anyone who acts upon this.

So let us make the best of this most blessed day. Remember there is no guarantee we will be alive tomorrow let alone next year. So if you want to make life changes and get closer to Allah then there is no better time to do so than now. Our enemy satan only wants us to keep putting off these changes until death takes us when it will be too late.

May Allah enable us to make the best of this blessed day and make it a means for us to change our lives for the better forever by making us fully immerse into the deen and to get closer to him. Ameen

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

It has been announced that the first blessed day of Dhul Hijjah will begun tomorrow (Sunday 12th August), from Fajr & the first blessed night will be tonight from Maghrib.

These blessed days are better than any other day of the year including the days of Ramadan. The nights are better than any other night (except the nights of Ramadan).

Allah swears upon these days and nights in Surah Fajr: "By the Dawn; By the ten Nights". (89:1-2)

    *Important Dates:*

8th Dhul Hijjah/Start of Hajj: Sun 19th August.

Day of Arafat - Mon 20th Aug from Fajr to Maghrib

    Eid al-Adha/Yaum an-Nahr: Tues 21st Aug

May Allah enable us to make the best of these blessed days and nights and accept our worship and Dua's. Ameen

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

The greatest day of the year for Muslims is one NOT to miss out on!

A’ishah رضي الله عنها reports that Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“There is no day in which Allah sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the day of ‘Arafat. And on that day Allah draws near to the earth and by way of exhibiting His Pride remarks to the angels, ‘What is the desire of these (servants of mine)?” (Muslim)

A blessed day Alhumdulillah! However if you are not on Hajj, you still have a chance to reap some amazing benefits.

Here’s what to do to maximize your rewards
One of the most important things for those of us who are not on Hajj to do is FAST! We know that you’re fully aware of the benefits of fasting by now, but why is fasting the Day of Arafat so epic?

Abu Qatudah Al-Ansari رضي الله عنه narrated that Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked about the fast on the day of ‘Arafat. He said, “It compensates for the (minor) sins of the past and the coming year.” (Muslim, At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

    Your Day of Arafat Schedule:
    1. Sleep early the night before to strengthen yourself for the special day.

    2. Wake up 1 hour before Fajr (recommended time) and have suhoor if you are at home and fasting.

    3. Make wudu, while consciously remembering that your sins are being washed away til the last drop of water.

    4. Pray at least 4 rakat of Qiyam (voluntary night prayers between Isha and Fajr) and make du’a for your Deen and Dunya in your sujood. Cry to Allah, showing Him humility and ask Him to give you tawfeeq on this great day, and thank Him for making you of those who would experience this special occasion.

    5. Spend some time (10-15 mins at least) making Istighfar (asking for forgiveness) before Fajr, to be like the righteous whom Allah described as “seeking forgiveness before dawn.”

    6. Attend Fajr in the Masjid (or at home). Reply to the Fajr adhan and make Du’a. Pray Fajr. Sit in your prayer place after praying in congregation and do your morning adhkar. Make tasbeeh, tahleel, tahmeed, and takbeer. And as the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) advised, increase in “la ilaha illallah, wahdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul mulk wa lahul hamd, wa huwa ala kulli shay’in qadeer.”

    7. 15-20 minutes after sunrise pray 2 rakat of shurooq (voluntary/Nafl prayer). This all (praying Fajr in Jama’ah, sitting and remembering Allah until sunrise, then completing step 7) amounts to the reward of a complete Hajj and Umrah. So do not waste it!

    8. If you’re able to stay awake by all means, do so and do not waste a single minute. If you need to sleep, take a nap for an hour with the conscious intention of energizing yourself for the worship of Allah.

    9. When you wake up, make wudu and pray at least 4 rakat of Duha (mid-morning voluntary Nafl prayer). Then recite lots of Quran and make the dhikr mentioned above in breaks in between.

    10. After Asr, say the evening adhkar. Then recite Qur’an again til about an hour before Maghrib. At that point, make LOTS of Du’a til Maghrib, while having firm belief that Allah will answer. (Preparing a Du’a list ahead of time helps!) Beg that the day will not come to an end except that Allah has forgiven you all your sins and written you of those He has freed from the Fire.

Please remember us in your Dua's too on this blessed day.

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

*4 Best Things to do on Day of Arafah*

*1. Fast on the Day of Arafah*

Fasting is highly encouraged and recommended for those not going on hajj. The Prophet (swt) said: “Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year." (Muslim)

*2. Frequently repeat the Dua taught by Prophet ﷺ*

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best of Du’a’ is Du’a’ on the day of ‘Arafah, and the best that I and the Prophets before me said is: *”Laa ilaaha ill-allaahu, waḥdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa ‛alaa kulli shay’in qadeer”*(There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner or associate; His is the dominion, to Him be praise, and He has power over all things). (Al-Tirmidhi)

*3. Seek Forgiveness & Make Dua from your heart*

The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘There is no day on which Allah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He revels before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” (Tirmidi)

*4. Increase in your Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)*

Prophet ﷺ said: “There aren’t any days greater, nor any days in which deeds done in them are more beloved to Allah Most High, than these ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah). So, increase in them the saying of *Tahleel (Laa-ilaaha-ill-Allah), and Takbeer (Allahu-Akbar) and Tahmeed (al-hamdu-lillaah).”*

May Allah accept all of our good deeds & make us of those who are completely forgiven before we leave this world. Ameen

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

Nine Sunnah's to Follow on the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the most virtuous days of the year, in which Allah (swt) has blessed his Ummah with opportunities to multiply their rewards through His infinite mercy. These days are so sacred that Allah swears an oath by them: ‘By the dawn; by the ten nights’ [The Noble Qur’an, 89:1-2].

And Allah also reminds us: ‘Remember Allah during the appointed days’. [The Noble Qur’an, 2:203]

Therefore, we should increase our acts of worship during this sacred time. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than in these (ten) days’. [Abu Dawud]

Here are nine Sunnah actions you should follow to seek Allah’s forgiveness and maximise your reward during the best ten days of the year.

    1. Dhikr

Let’s begin with a simple yet effective action - increasing your dhikr. In Makkah, the Talbiyah will be on every pilgrim’s tongue throughout the day and night; those at home have also been commanded to praise Allah constantly in these ten days.

The Eid takbeer is an example of dhikr that ticks all three of these boxes - tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed.

You can also make dhikr after your five daily prayers - SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times.

Reciting SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi (Glory be to Allah and praise Him) one hundred times a day will wipe away sins - no matter how burdensome they are.

These simple measures will ensure you are remembering Allah throughout the day and benefitting from the blessings of Dhul-Hijjah.

    2. Fast the first nine days

It is Sunnah to fast on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, because fasting is one of the best of deeds. In a hadith Qudsi, Allah says, ‘All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it’. [Bukhari]

If you are unable to fast for the whole nine days, try to fast on just the Day of ’Arafah, the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. Just as Laylat al-Qadr is the most blessed night of the year, ’Arafah is the most blessed day of the year. The Prophet (saw) said, ’There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than on the day of ‘Arafah’. (Muslim)

Like Laylat al-Qadr, we should spend this day seeking forgiveness and availing ourselves of Allah’s incredible mercy. On this day, non-pilgrims have the opportunity to extinguish the sins of two years by fasting! The Prophet (saw) said, ′It (fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah) expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year’. [Muslim]

    3. Recite Qur’an

Reciting the Qur’an is one of the best acts of worship we can perform to draw closer to Allah and seek his pleasure. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter’. [Tirmidhi]

SubhanAllah, imagine the rewards you will earn from reading each letter during these blessed days when Allah has promised to multiply your reward.

    4. Remember loved ones

Many of us will try to perform a Hajj specifically for a loved one that has passed away or make du’a for loved ones during our own Hajj so that Allah will forgive them and have mercy on them on the Day of Judgement.

If you are unable to perform a Hajj for a loved one you can still honour them by giving Sadaqah Jariyah in their name on these blessed days. Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah, knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him’. [Muslim]

Our beloved Prophet (saw) told us that giving water is the best form of Sadaqah. By giving in the name of your loved one you will be gifting a source of life to a whole community and increasing your loved one’s record of good deeds for the Day of Judgement.

    5. Pray Tahajjud

It’s been two months since the last ten nights of Ramadan, and many of us are missing the ‘spiritual high’ of seeking out Laylat al-Qadr through our nightly worship. But did you know that praying at night for the first ten nights of Dhul-Hijjah is equivalent to praying on Laylat al-Qadr?

    6. Give Sadaqah

Many of us maximise our Sadaqah during the last ten nights of Ramadan, but the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are just as valuable and present the perfect opportunity to earn extra rewards for simple good deeds!

Hasan al-Basri (rh) said, ‘Going to fulfil the need of your brother is better for you than performing Hajj after Hajj’.

    7. Repent

Hajj is the ultimate act of worship we can perform as Muslims to seek forgiveness from Allah and expiate our sins, but most of us are lucky if we can go even once in our lifetime. That is why Dhul-Hijjah is the perfect gift from Allah, allowing us to repent and seek forgiveness for our sins even if we are not on pilgrimage.

Repentance brings us closer to Allah and cleanses our souls. Allah says:

‘Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favour his favour’. [The Noble Qur’an, 11:3]

    8. Pray Eid Salah

Eid Salah is one of the ways we show our Islamic identity as a community and is therefore a very important act of worship for all Muslims to partake in. The Prophet (saw) always attended Eid Salah, as did his companions after he had passed away. He encouraged everyone to attend, even menstruating women - who are unable to perform the prayer itself but can still share in the blessings of this gathering.

    9. Give a Prophetic Qurbani

Abu Talhah (ra) reported, ‘The Prophet (saw) sacrificed for the one who could not sacrifice from his Ummah, one who bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and [his] Prophethood’. [Tabarani and Ahmad]

During Eid, the Prophet (saw) would offer an additional sacrifice on behalf of someone in his Ummah that could not afford to. Allah says, ‘There has come to you a Messenger of Allah from among yourselves, who is distressed by the losses you sustain, who is ardently desirous of your welfare and is tender and merciful to those that believe’. [The Noble Qur’an, 9:128]

SubhanAllah, this generous act of our beloved Messenger of Allah is an incredible example of His mercy to His Ummah that Allah refers to in the above ayah, to sacrifice for his Ummah and cover them till the Day of Judgement.

You too can follow this beautiful Sunnah and give an extra Qurbani to maximise your reward during Dhul-Hijjah. Not only will you be reviving a forgotten Sunnah, but you will be also doubling your impact by feeding even more families a rare meal with meat during the days of Eid-al-Adha.

In sha Allah, these nine tips will help you make the most of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. From everyone at Muslim Hands, we’d like to wish you a blessed month full of good deeds, forgiveness and closeness to Allah.

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

7 Good Deeds For The Day Of Arafat

What Is The 'Day Of Arafat'?

The day of Arafat (or Arafah) is the 9th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah on the Islamic calendar. It occurs near the end of the Hajj pilgrimage as pilgrims stand on the plain of Arafat to perform prayers, supplications, and acts of worship.

Allah perfected the religion of Islam for Muslims on the day of Arafat. It is also the day on which the Prophet (PBUH) delivered his last sermon usually referred to as his Farewell Sermon (in Arabic: Arabic: خُطْبَةُ الْوِدَاع‎, Khuṭbatu l-Widāʿ), in which he affirmed the sanctity of human life and the abolition of racism. This sermon included the Verse of the Perfection of the Religion (in Arabic آیَة إِکْمَال الدِّيْن‎, Āyat Ikmāl ad-Dīn):

"This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." (Surah Al Ma'idah, 5:3)

In normal years, over 2.5 million pilgrims or more visit the plain of Arafat during Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This represents the finale and climax of the Hajj journey, the pilgrims' most important ritual.

Abdu Rahman ibn Ya'mar reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) said: "The Hajj is Arafat. Whoever reaches the night of Arafat before the rising of the sun at dawn the next day, has completed his pilgrimage." (Sunan al-Nasa'i)

The Prophet compared Arafat Day to a day of celebration (Eid). While it is not technically Eid, it is a celebration since it marks the end of successfully completing the annual Hajj journey. It should be a joyful moment, as well as a time of reverence and dedication.

'Uqbah ibn Amir reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), said: "The day of 'Arafat, the day of sacrifice, and the three following days (tashriq) are our celebration for the people of Islam. They are days of eating and drinking." (al-Tirmidhi

    Blessings of Arafat Day

    A Release From Hellfire

Arafat is one of the most auspicious occasions in Islam because Allah SWT releases more Muslims from Hellfire and forgives more sins on this day than on any other. Arafat is one of the greatest days to strive in worship, good actions, and especially to enhance our supplications for this reason (Dua).

Aisha (May Allah Be Pleased With Her) reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), said: "There is no day upon which Allah frees more of his servants from the Hellfire than the Day of Arafat. He draws near and then he praises them to the angels, saying: What do they want?" (Muslim)

Dua On Arafat Day Is Accepted

There are countless instances of Muslims expressing how the dua they made on Arafah day altered their lives completely. The Prophet's (PBUH) companions would prepare the dua they would make on that day from the previous year, indicating how essential it is to them and to Allah SWT.

Even if you are not completing Hajj on this day, you can still benefit from the power of Dua (supplication). As said by the Prophet (PBUH) in this Hadith: "The best supplication is the one made on the Day of Arafah." (Tirmidhi)

The most vital point is to truly believe that Allah SWT will answer your duas made on that day, no questions asked. Make sure to include all your wishes on that day, while fasting if you can, and to devote some time before starting and then breaking your fast to make dua.

Fasting On That Day Erases Sins

Fasting on Arafat day is advised for those who are not attending the Hajj pilgrimage, as a way of expiation and cleansing from sin. Fasting itself holds a great position in the sight of Allah SWT, so, imagine fasting on a blessed day like Arafat?

In a Qudsi Hadith, Allah SWT says: "All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it." (Bukhari)

According to Abu Qatadah, a man approached Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and asked, "What is your opinion about fasting on Arafat?" The Prophet (PBUH) responded: "It will expiate the sins of the previous and upcoming year." (Muslim)

The Best Deeds To Do On Arafah Day

In order to make the best of Arafah, we should concentrate our efforts to do as many good deeds as we can. These efforts can take the shape of:

    1. Fast

Never miss fasting on Arafah's Day, unless you are unable to. All your sins from the previous year and the next year would be removed if you fast for one day in the name of Allah SWT. If you cannot fast, still make the intention that you would have fasted if you could, and try to feed a fasting person that day so that you can get the same reward insha'Allah.

It was narrated that Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever gives iftaar (i.e. gives enough to drink and eat to satisfy the fasting person) to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest." (At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Maajah)

    2. Engage in Dhikr and Dua as much as possible

Saying Tahleel: Laa ilaaha ill-Allah (There is no god but Allah), Takbeer: Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), and Tahmeed: Al-hamdu Lillah (All praise is to Allah) is among the best you can say throughout Arafat Day.

Amr ibn Shuayb reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "The best supplication is that which is made on the day of Arafat. The best of it is what was said by myself and the prophets before me: la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharik lah lahu al-Mulk walahu alhamd wahu alaa kulli shay' Qadir" (Sunan al-Tirmidhi)

You should also make lots of dua for this life and the hereafter.

    3. Give Out Sadaqah (Charity) and Zakat (Obligatory Almsgiving)

You can give out Sadaqah or Zakat online through lots of charitable organizations or you can choose to give to people in need who live near you. Asking the local mosque about whether they collect Zakat is also a good idea.

    4. Ask For Forgiveness

As you make dua, make sure to ask Allah SWT for forgiveness for all of your shortcomings, mistakes and sins you have committed, whether consciously or not.

    5. Show Gratitude to Allah SWT

Take some time to ponder upon all of the blessings that Allah SWT has showered you with, as well as the difficulties, challenges and tests that have allowed you to grow closer to Him. Show gratitude to Allah SWT by doing the other deeds listed here, and be helpful to those around you. You can also make a list of things you can be grateful for - this is a practice that can be done everyday, and has been shown to help with feelings of anxiety, depression and negativity.

    6. Offer Extra Prayers

Your priority should be to make sure that you pray your five obligatory prayers on time, and that is the most important you can do to fulfill your obligations towards Allah SWT. If you can, also offer extra, voluntary prayers to increase your good deeds and grow closer to Allah SWT in those special moments of worship.

    7. Read the Quran

Reading the Quran will bless your day and bring you closer to Allah SWT by reciting His Holy words. Read as much as you can from the Quran on that day and try to also comprehend what you're reading and reflecting on how you can apply those teachings into your life.

To conclude, Arafat Day is one of the greatest days of the year in Islam. It marks and celebrates the completion of the Hajj journey and carries so many blessings nd virtues even for those who are not completing their pilgrimage. All Muslims come together on this day in remembrance of Allah, The Almighty.

During this time, we should boost our good deeds, Salah, and Dua. If we are unable to be on Arafat, we should fast the day in honor of Allah SWT. If we are on the plain of Arafat, we should conserve our energy for worship and make as many duas as possible for our future selves and the whole Ummah.

Re: 4 things to do on the Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

Being Heedless about the Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “There are no ten days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days (meaning the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah) They said: Not even striving in the cause of Allah? He said: Not even striving in the cause of Allah, unless a man goes out with himself and his wealth and does not bring anything back.” [Bukhari]

Sheikh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (Ra) said: "Righteous actions, including fasting, in the (first) ten days of Dhū al-Ḥijjah are more beloved to Allāh than righteous actions in the last ten days of Ramaḍān. Yet the people are heedless of the ten days of Dhū al-Ḥijjah. They pass and the people are upon their normal ways. You find no increase in reading the Qur'ān or other types of worship, rather some of them are even stingy with the Takbīr." [الشرح الممتع ٤٧٠/٦]

Therefore how can we afford to be heedless and negligent of such blessed days that are better than any other day of the year including the days of Ramadan? Surely we do not want to be of the utterly regretful in the Hereafter when we realise that we missed out on immense rewards that would have benefitted us forever, but instead we wasted this valuable time on fruitless pursuits.

So we must grab this most valuable opportunity with both hands and realise that nothing else right now matters more than worshipping Allah and pleasing him the most during these blessed days. So let us put aside any distractions at least until Eid, and focus on maximising these blessed days that are only short in number and will soon be over.
