    Ruling on Visiting the Mosque of the Prophetﷺ

    Report bad ads?

    Visiting the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ is not part of the conditions of Hajj, and neither is it one of its pillars or obligations; rather it is a recommended act (Sunnah) and can be performed at any time.Furthermore, it is compulsory that the intention for the visit should be to pray in the Mosque, and not to visit the grave. On the authority of Abu Hurairah t, who said that the Prophet ﷺsaid:“No one should journey to any Mosque except for three Mosques: the Haram Mosque, the Prophet’s Mosque and al-Aqsaa Mosque.”
    [ Source: Muslim.]
    Shayk al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: “If the intention of traveling is to visit the grave of the Prophet ﷺ , but not to pray therein, then the view of the Imams and majority of scholars is that it is neither a legislated nor a commanded act. The ahadeeth about visiting the grave of the Prophet ﷺ are all weak, according to the consensus of the scholars of ahadeeth, rather they are all fabricated and none of the reliable narrators of the Sunan related any of them, nor have any of the imams used any of them as evidence.” [ Majmoo’ al- Fatawa vol.27, pg 26.]

    Re: Ruling on Visiting the Mosque of the Prophetﷺ

    It is recommended to do Ziyarah of Prophet’s grave as it is narrated by Daraqutni with his Isnaad from Ibn Umar (ra) that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:Whosoever performs the Hajj after my death then he should visit my grave because It is as If he has visited me during my life.And he also narrated (another hadith) that Whosoever visits my grave then my intercession becomes Wajib for him [Imam Ibn Qudama in al-Mughni, Volume No. 5, Page No. 381]

    Re: Ruling on Visiting the Mosque of the Prophetﷺ

    We are supposed to love rasooulullah more than our parents and lives. How can a Muslim can afford NOT TO VISIT HIS grave ??

    That hadith of 3 masjids was told when Prophet was alive.

    We need not become barelvis with Kabr or grave addicts but do not hate going to Graves, kabrs. Prophet a month or 2 before his demise visited the Shaheeds ( of Uhud ) and prayed Janaza as a farewell from this world is seen Sahih hadith . He did travel for that I suppose at least a few kms (7kms + is a considerable distance in those days ).

    Its like a wajib to visit Nabi kabr for a haaji, is what I heard.

    We should not go to extremes. A hadith said something like one who does not have TENDERLY FEELINGS had LOST ALL GOOD.

    Here's is that hadith of praying on Martyrs of Uhud after eight years

    Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 374

    Narrated Uqba bin Amir:
    Allah's Apostle offered the funeral prayers of the martyrs of Uhud eight years after (their death), as if bidding farewell to the living and the dead, then he ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor before you, and I am a witness on you, and your promised place to meet me will be Al-Haud (i.e. the Tank) (on the Day of Resurrection), and I am (now) looking at it from this place of mine. I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that worldly life will tempt you and cause you to compete with each other for it." That was the last look which I cast on Allah's Apostle.

    NOTE : how clear is the farewell note of Nabi !!!

    this hadith has nothing to do with grave of prophet s.a.w. It pertains to visiting any other masjid

    Re: Ruling on Visiting the Mosque of the Prophetﷺ

    I think what matters is not just visiting the grave but what you are doing there. When we visit the graves of our loved ones we pray for their souls. We dont worship them. Some people go to the graves of old famous scholars and pray them. Are you seeking the help from this soul who passed away or from Allah?

    Is there any hadith which tells us what to do when we visit the grave of the Prophet aleyhissalam?

    A hadith shows that Bilal who left Madina after Prophet 's demise once saw Prophet in a dream who asked something like, Oh, Bilal, You never come to me ( like have you forgotten me ? ) and Hazrath Bilal did travel from Damascus immediately to Medina and held Prophets grave and cried . Its said women rushed to masjid crying, hearing the same old adhan of the days of Muhammad Rasoolulah and the grandsons of Rasoolulah rushed to Bilal who hugged them and wept.

    Now when the grave is cordoned off with a golden gate partitioned from the masjid Nabavi so this will not be allowed to anyone now to avoid the fuss ( they will kill each other doing that ) but these hadiths will give us some direction what not to do & what to do

    Dawud :: Book 10 : Hadith 2037
    Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: Do not make your houses graves, and do not make my grave a place of festivity. But invoke blessings on me, for your blessings reach me wherever you may be.

    Note : Avoiding festivity may refer to celebration like urs that's seen widely in all dargas of the sub continent.

    Malik :: Book 9 : Hadith 9.22.71
    Yahya related to me from Malik that Abdullah ibn Dinar said, "I saw Abdullah ibn Umar stop by the grave of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and ask for blessings on the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and on Abu Bakr and Umar."

    and there are some more hadith on this topic i could n't locate now
