    Statements of salaf ra (OP)

‘Awn ibn Abdillah (rahimahullah) said, “A man advised his son saying: O my son! You should adopt Taqwa and if you are able to be better today than you were yesterday and to be better tomorrow than you are today, then do so.”(Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak, Hadith: 846, pg. 254 and Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 4 pg. 263/264. It was said to Hasan Al-Basri: "Shouldn't one of us feel too shy to ask his Lord to forgive his sin, then do it again, then ask for forgiveness, then do it again?"

He said: "The Shaytaan wishes that you would have this attitude, so do not tire of asking for forgiveness".

    ["Jaami al-Ulum wal-Hukam", 1/165].

    Masha Allah so true.
Lightness just descends on me when i am more worried about whether i will be forgiven on judgement day and enter Jannah. Its like a right of passage to realize this though...so easy to get caught up in the little trivial things and forget the real point of life. subhana allah

Ibrahim ibn ‘Amr As San’ani ra said,

It was once revealed to Nabi Yusha’ ibn Nun (‘alayhis salam) that a punishment would befall his people and destroy one hundred thousand of them. Sixty thousand of them were sinners, whereas the other forty thousand were outwardly pious people! [In astonishment] Nabi Yusha’ asked, “O Allah! What crime did the pious people commit?” Allah Ta’ala replied, “They associated and interacted with the evil people, ate and drank with them and did not express any anger for the wrongs taking place around them.”

Muqatil ibn Muhammad once went with his father and brother to visit Abu Ishaq Ibrahim Al Harbi. Ibrahim asked Muhammad, ‘Are these your children?’ When my father replied in the affirmative, he said, ‘Beware, They should not see you [doing things/in places] that Allah Ta’ala has prohibited lest your rank in their eyes and their respect for you diminish.
