    Statements of salaf ra (OP)

‘Awn ibn Abdillah (rahimahullah) said, “A man advised his son saying: O my son! You should adopt Taqwa and if you are able to be better today than you were yesterday and to be better tomorrow than you are today, then do so.”(Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak, Hadith: 846, pg. 254 and Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 4 pg. 263/264. Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

It used to be said, “People have never honoured themselves with anything [better] than the obedience of Allāh, and they have never dishonoured themselves with anything [worse] than disobedience to Allāh.”

ما من قوم فيهم من يتهاون بالصلاة ولا يأخذون على يديه إلا كان أول عقوبتهم إن ينقص من أرزاقهم

''When a nation is negligent towards Salah, and none prohibits them against this/cautions them except that the first punishment to afflict them will be a decrease of sustenance.''

Hafiz ibn Rajab Al Hambali (rahimahullah) has cited this as the statement of Abu Khallad (rahimahullah)

    Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:

‘Stick with your true brothers. You can live in comfort with them, as they are a delight in times of ease, and you can lean on them in times of hardship. Assume the best about your brother until he comes with something that should alarm you from him. Avoid your enemy, and beware of befriending anyone but the trustworthy, and there is no trust for the one who doesn’t fear Allah.’

    Re: Statements of salaf ra

إنك أن تلقى الله عز وجل بسبعين ذنباً فيما بينك وبينه أهون عليك من أن تلقاه بذنب واحد فيما بينك وبين العباد

''It is easier to meet Allah with seventy sins which are between you and Him [i.e. where you have violated the command of Allah] than meeting him with one sin between you and another person [i.e. where you have violated the right of a person/oppressed him in any way].''

Faqih Abul Layth As Samarqandi and ‘Allamah Qurtubi
(rahimahumallah) have cited this as the statement of Sufyan Thawri (rahimahullah).

It is reported that Abū Ḥāzim Salamah b. Dīnār – Allāh have mercy on him – was once asked:

“O Abū Ḥāzim, do you not see how prices have risen?” He replied, “And what is the worry? Verily, he (Allāh) who provides for us during deflation is the one who will provide for us during inflation.”
