    Statements of salaf ra (OP)

‘Awn ibn Abdillah (rahimahullah) said, “A man advised his son saying: O my son! You should adopt Taqwa and if you are able to be better today than you were yesterday and to be better tomorrow than you are today, then do so.”(Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak, Hadith: 846, pg. 254 and Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 4 pg. 263/264. Haytham Ibn Jameel rh was asked:

“A man is well learned with regards to the affairs of the Sunnah, should he debate and argue about them?”

    He replied:
“No, however he should inform the people about the Sunnah, so if it is accepted from him then good and if not then he should keep silent.” [Jaami’u Bayaan Al-‘Ilmi Wa Fadhlihi, 4/94]

    Sa’id ibn Abdul Aziz reported:
Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote to the people of Medina,

“Whoever worships without knowledge will cause more harm than good. Whoever considers his words part of his deeds will speak little unless it concerns him. Whoever makes the purpose of his religion to indulge arguments, he will frequently change his position.”

    Companions of The Prophet

Alhamdulillāh… All praise and thanks are due to the Almighty Allāh. I send peace and blessings blessings upon Ḥabībī Muḥammad, his household, his companions and all those who follow his guided path, till the Day of Judgement.

Hārithah ibn al-Nu‘mān was one of the companions of the Prophet, sallā Allāhu ‘alaihi wa sallam. He was an Ansārī (from Madinah) who participated in all battles, which the Prophet sallā Allāhu ‘alaihi wa sallam participated. However, Hārithah ibn al-Nu‘mān is known for a few good tidings which the Prophet, ṣallā Allāhu ‘alaihi wa sallam, conveyed to him. He’s going to be one of the Qur’ān reciters in the Paradise. This is not only a good news, but an outstanding prestige, for the Qur’ān is the only book of Allāh that will be recited in the Paradise.

    Imam Sufyan thawri rh said:

One day, I sat in a gathering and with us was Sa’eed b. as-Saaib at-Taaifee. During the course of our gathering, Sa’eed was crying so much that I began to feel compassion and pity towards him.
I said to him, “O Sa’eed, you are listening to me speak about the people of Paradise [and not the people of the Hellfire], so why are you crying?”
He replied, “O Sufyan, and what should prevent me from crying?! You are mentioning the people of Paradise and the good qualities that makes people deserving of Paradise, and I do not see those qualities in me!”

    Abdullah ibn ‘Umar

Truly, we were the beginning of this nation. There would be men, amongst the best of the companions of the Messenger of Allah , who only had with them one surah or so from the Qur’an, but the Qur’an was heavy upon them and they were given the sustenance of acting according to it. Truly, the end of this nation will have the Qur’an upon them until even the child and the non-Arab recites it, but they will not act according to it.
