Okay, I'll be frank here. There was never a Kingdom, Emirate, or Republic of Palestine. There was never a Palestinian culture, a Palestinian language, or a Palestinian ethnicity. It was a landmass part of the greater Caliphate and later Britain until it became Israel. There was no sense of Palestinian identity for a long time but the fact remains that there is a sense of identity now. Thus the Palestinians deserve an independent state. Asking the Israelis to leave the land now would be like asking all non-Natives Americans to leave the US and Canada. It's not gonna happen.
Let's come up with a reasonable solution here because God knows the bloodshed is getting us nowhere and our leaders aren't helping. First we start with a ceasefire. I say all of Gaza, all of the West Bank, and East Jerusalem should be a Palestinian state. Israel withdraws all its troops from those areas and takes down all the Jewish settlements. Then allow free travel between both states because the Jews and Muslims have holy sites all over the place. After that, they can start talking about a peace treaty and its terms. Easier said than done but those who are tired of all the death would be willing to negotiate.

Good post. I like your idea for a reasonable solution -- but playing the devil's advocate, the main objection raised against it, from the Israelis, would be the unfettered presence of Hamas, would it not? How would you answer that? rebecca

that at the start of the 20th century, less than 5% of the land of Palestine
was Jewish. The modern State of Israel was built on lands illegally taken and
assimilated from Palestinian Christians and Muslims. Also, the Hebrews only
ruled the land of Palestine for a combined 411 years - the Muslims have ruled
the land for 1,500 years. In addition, the land of Canaan (Palestine) had a
history long before the Jewish tribes immigrated to the area.

The only people who think this are zionists. Of course there was a Palestine; it's been documented and referred to many times over the last few thousand years. They have photos and everything It was actually Palestine when the British administered it too (hence British Mandate for Palestine). American people are more made up than Palestinians if you want to think of it like that. I may as well steal a few acres on one of the Channel Islands... since the people there are obviously also made up.
It seems like a rule that every republican candidate must be certified crazy. Luckily Ron Paul didn't get a copy of the rules yet.

That part made me lol out loud.. God bless you, you seem to give the benefit of the doubt to those repuke con candidates with their all too frequent attempts at re-writing history.. Seems perhaps the American public has the memory span of a goldfish.. so perhaps this too will come to pass with the next concoction ...
