the man used to be a maoist, then after the 1980 coup he was a Kemalist, then he was visiting the head of the PKK separatists in the mountains, and now he is ultranationalist, anti-"western imperialist", pro-russia, pro-china, and secularist. He has a PhD in Law, and wrote many books. He was sentenced to life in prison for allegedly being part of a coup plan back in 2013 led by an alleged organization known as "Ergenekon" which judges later deemed to be fake and the documents forged, and was released. He also won a case against a Swiss court after being charged with armenian genocide denial, and was later found innocent on the grounds of free speech.

EDIT: It is also important to note that under the policy of "kadrolasma" the ruling government's positions are being filled with people loyal to Perincek, including in the military. these seats were previously filled by people who have since been fired after the failed coup, however, perincek's men have always had a strong presence in the military.
