a number of reasons.
after 9/11, militarism grew in the USA, thus leading to the US meddling in various world affairs and weakening its own economy and internal stability and self governance abilities, thus paving the way for obama, who disappointed many but still continued the interventionism in some areas and discontinued anti-islamism in others....thus paving the way for trump's isolationism and poor temperament and emotional instability and lack of experience, since the american populace considered anyone better than the establishment how are the mujahideen to blame? they created a culture of fear, which led to an overreaction which led to a series of events....this process is described in detail in jihadist literature, such as "the management of savagery"
