Study: Europe's Muslim population to grow, migration or not
By KIRSTEN GRIESHABER | Associated Press
BERLIN – Europe's Muslim population would continue to grow over the next several decades even if all immigration to the continent were halted, according to a study published Thursday.

The Pew Research Center report published Thursday modeled three scenarios for estimating the number of Muslims who will be living in Europe by 2050. All three used a mid-2016 estimate of 25.8 million as a baseline, but assumed different future migration rates.

Under the "zero migration" scenario, an estimated 30 million Muslims would make up 7.4 percent of Europe's population by 2050 compared to the 4.9 percent they comprised last year, the report projected. The researchers say that's mostly because Muslims are on average 13 years younger than other Europeans and also have a higher birthrate, the Pew researchers said.

The study estimates that 58.8 million Muslims would account for 11.2 percent of the population in a "medium migration" scenario that has migration maintaining a "regular speed" — defined by the Pew researchers as migration motivated by economic, educational and family reasons — but not for seeking asylum as a refugee.

In the "high migration" scenario, the study projects that the record flow of migrants who came to Europe between 2015 and 2016 would continue indefinitely, resulting in 75 million Muslims in Europe, a 14 percent increase, by the middle of the century.

Even with the most immigration, Muslims would "still be considerably smaller than the populations of both Christians and people with no religion in Europe," the researchers concluded.

Muslim immigrants have been a politically sensitive topic in Europe following the influx of newcomers in 2015 and 2016. Some countries have seen backlashes that have included populist parties campaigning on anti-Islam messages.

The study was based on census and survey data, population registers, immigration data and other sources. The 30 countries it covered include the 28 European Union members, plus Norway and Switzerland.

Not all countries would be affected evenly by future immigration, according to the Pew report. In the high migration scenario, Germany and Sweden would have the biggest increases because both countries took in the most asylum-seekers during the height of the refugee crisis two years ago.

While Muslims made up 6 percent of Germany's population last year, their proportion would go up to 20 percent by 2050. Sweden's Muslims, who were at 8 percent in 2016, would account for 31 percent of the population in that same scenario.

Meanwhile, some countries that had comparatively few Muslim residents in 2016 would continue to have few by 2050 in all three scenarios.

Fascinating, but it does not take into account things like pandemics, wars, natural disasters and Muslims losing their faith and becoming either "Christians" or atheists "lefty liberals" in order to fit in "assimilation" or leaving Europe. Of course there will be a devout number of Muslims but they will be a minority. Also there is a possibility of white supremacist "Muslims" as there are white supremacist "Christians" and Christianity originates from Asia too. Could even get crazy enough to have white supremacist "Jews". Sounds like the neo cons running the USA... I wonder?

Yes I wonder too whether the ratio of Muslim converts is more or less then the ex-Muslims, becaming Christians or atheists, in Europe. I see there are many dawah organzations now but unfortunately the ignorant children don t need any specific effort to leave Islam. It just naturally happens in the west. However the main reason of the increasing number of Muslims in the west (Europe and America) is migration, at least for now.

There are already white supremacist Muslims. Though, Islam teaches against racial supremacisms. Christianity does too as far as I know. Very interesting isnt it? People like to interperete the religion in a way which it fits best their already developed ideas.

Chances are that there will also be pandemics, wars, natural disasters and Muslims losing their faith in many Muslim-majority countries as well. Last time I checked, many Muslim-majority countries were in turmoil much greater than in Europe (this is not a criticism but just an observation). One thing is for sure and it's that Muslims will continue to have the highest fertility rate globally compared to any other religious groups, whether it is inside or outside of Muslim-majority countries. "As of 2011, it is predicted that the world's Muslim population will grow twice as fast as non-Muslims over the next 20 years." Meanwhile, birth rates in European countries are at an all-time low. Chances are that they will remain low. In Germany, for instance, the birth rate is 1.50... you need a birth rate of 2.10 to sustain a population. So European countries will continue to rely on migrants to keep their birth rates up. Europe's demographics will be changing drastically within the next couple of centuries, and with a changing demographic that will benefit Muslims, Muslims will likely become more assertive and less likely to try and assimilate to so-called "lefty-liberal" norms (to use your words).

Re: Study: Europe's Muslim population to grow, migration or not

WS many of what the Media would call Political Islamists Muslims that call for a Worldwide Caliphate ruled by a Caliph a known as a Islamic State may see a Muslim Majority in Europe as a victory but the Western Elites wants these Muslims in Western Europe to accept Secularism assimilate and reform the idea of Secular States Separation of Religion and State many will say the Muslim World was more Secular in the 1970s therefor my question is it really a victory if the Majority of Muslims in Europe accept Secular Rule in Europe and vote for Secular Political Parties and don't work for a Caliphate Albania and Bosnia are in Europe but they are Secular but they are still Majority Muslim there are many Muslim Majority Nations such as Chechnya Tunisia Turkey Morocco so on as pointed out in other posts many Bosnian Muslims were Secular and did Drink Alcohol and did Marry Christians but were still victims of Genocide as numbers mean nothing one Muslim told me it is always the Minority that has the truth even if Western Europe became Majority Muslims other say Birthrates have fallen in many Muslim Nations due to Economics I read this article by Christopher Hitchens ?

    from the magazine
    Facing the Islamist Menace
Mark Steyn’s new book is a welcome wake-up call.
    Christopher Hitchens Winter 2007
    Public safety
    Other
    Cities
Yet Steyn makes the same mistake as did the late Oriana Fallaci: considering European Muslim populations as one. Islam is as fissile as any other religion (as Iraq reminds us). Little binds a Somali to a Turk or an Iranian or an Algerian, and considerable friction exists among immigrant Muslim groups in many European countries. Moreover, many Muslims actually have come to Europe for the advertised purposes—seeking asylum and to build a better life. A young Afghan man, murdered in the assault on the London subway system in July 2005, had fled to England from the Taliban, which had murdered most of his family. Muslim women often demand the protection of the authorities against forced marriage and other cruelties. These are all points of difference, and also of possible resistance to Euro-sharia. https://www.city-journal.org/.../facing-islamist-menace...
