Lance Cpl. Roel Ryan Briones, who has spoken publicly about the Horrific massacre committed by his unit in the western town of Haditha on November 19 2005 has been charged by the U.S. military with raping a nonmilitary person in the Camp Pendleton area last year as well as stealing optical equipment worth about $3,820 in Iraq.

Media reports, citing remarks by Briones’ family, alleged that the man suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after he was ordered to take part in the crime by removing the corpse of 24 Iraqi civilians, including women and children, who were slain by Briones’ unit more than a year ago in Haditha.

Earlier, two U.S. soldiers pleaded guilty to murder charges in separate cases involving the deaths of Iraqi civilians.

Sergeant Paul Cortez pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and the killing of her family in Mahmudiyah in Iraq in March 2006.

Also Specialist James Barker, 23, who pleaded guilty in November, was sentenced to life in prison last month.

Five soldiers plotted to rape Abeer Kassem Hamza al-Janabi, a 14-year old Iraqi girl.

“They gathered together over cards and booze and came up with a plan to rape and murder that little girl,” Captain Alex Picklands said at a military hearing.

On March 12 2006, the soldiers broke into Abeer’s house, killed her parents, and six year old sister, Hadeel, and raped her before setting her body on fire.

Former army private Steven Green who served with the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq but was dishonorably discharged in May 2006 with a “personality disorder”, is believed to be the ringleader of the murderers of Abeer and her family. But he pleaded not guilty in civilian court in November.

We haven’t heard of a trial date being set yet.

Private Jesse Spielman and Private Bryan Howard were also charged in the Case.

The March 12 rape and killing of 14-year-old Abeer and her family, as well as Haditha crime are among the worst in a series of atrocities committed against Iraqis by the noble American Army, whom its presence in Iraq is said to be aimed at setting the nation free and installing a democratic system that serves their interest.

Although the case involving Abeer, is just one of a series in which U.S. troops have been accused of murdering civilians in Iraq, it sparked greater anger among Iraqis and the Muslim world because of the gruesome sexual nature of the crime.

For Iraqis, Abeer's case mirrors the fate of their nation. The U.S. soldiers who raped then killed Abeer and her parents and her younger sister spotted her, watched her house for a week before carrying out their crime.

In the minds of most Iraqis, the murder/rape case is synonymous with preparations for the March 2003 occupation of Iraq.

The U.S., Britain and their allies targeted Iraq, gathered intelligence- later proven misleading- then carryied out their crime of attacking a sovereign state and toppling its leader, without a permission from the United Nations.

But the U.S. crimes in Iraq continue.

Despite the best efforts of senior officials at the Bush administration to hide crimes committed by the U.S. forces in Iraq, every day we hear about American soldiers raping Iraqi women, American soldiers killing Iraqi civilians, including children. Are those people supposed to be the army of the most "civilized", "democratic" country in the world?

Re: Are those people operating in Iraq

Why do you not comment on the horrible massacre that your own brothers in Islam just committed killing over 120 people? The massacre by USA troops was a terrible one, but you seem to give unproportional time to the faults of the USA while failing to mention other groups faults and killings. The last time I checked, USA death squads were not roaming around Baghdad killing Muslims, yet Sunni and Shia ones are.

Here is the best, most objective part:

    Sonz;

Why do you think the Haditha thing is all over the news? Because it is aberrational...and because the culprits are being publicly tried. I suspect you are a young person and, naturally, are more prone to tribal thinking (us vs. them), but you might try broadening your information sources a bit. You are being manipulated, sir.

Um... before you go pointing fingers at the Sunnis and the Shia, there is a new investigation surrounding just who was responsible for the bombing of the Askyara mosque - the event that caused all this Happy/Joy - and what their motives were. Can't get into the details... but let's just say there is alot of outside manipulation of the Iraqi battleground.

I wrote the initial report and sent it through official channels - but I'm not qualified to head an investigation. I am honored that those who are, found enough merit in my original findings to warrent a further investigation.

through what official channels? What do you do, that you think you know these things or are you just making things up, it has already been proven who blew up that mosque, not only that but I read another one of your posts a while back where you blamed it on the US and said that was official... So what is the deal here are you making things up, because I believe one of the rules of this forum is that there are not supposed to be any conspiracy theory, so unless you have something to support your statement I suggest you quit spreading your lies
