Exclamation The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah (OP)

The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

Ali Ibn Abu Taalib (RA) narrated: on the pulpit in the mosque of Kufah:
When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. The angels come early in the morning, sit at the door of the mosque, and record that so-and-so came at the first hour, and so-and-so came at the second hour until the imam comes out (for preaching). When a man sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), where he remains silent and does not interrupt, he will receive a double reward. If he stays away, sits in a place where he cannot listen (to the sermon), silent, and does not interrupt, he will receive the reward only once. If he sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), and he does not remain silent, he will have the burden of it. If anyone says to his companion sitting beside him to be silent (while the imam is preaching), he is guilty of idle talk. Anyone who interrupts (during the sermon) will receive nothing (no reward) on that Friday. Then he (the narrator) says in the end of this tradition: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say so. (Abu Dawood 1046)

    1. Jummah preparations should begin on Thursday such as clipping the nails, removing of the hair etc (Ihya aul-Uloom, vol. 1, page 161)

    2. To have a bath (Ghusl) (Bukhari, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

On one Friday, The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "O Muslims! Allah Ta'ala has made this day a day of Eid. So have a bath on this day, whoever has perfume should apply it, and use the Miswaak. “(Ibn Majah)

    3. To use Miswaak (Ibid)

    4. To use Attar (Perfume) (Ibid)

    5. To wear nice clothes (Abu Dawood, Chapter of Ghusl on the day of Jummah)

    6. To proceed early as possible to the Masjid for Jummah

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "On the day of Jummah, the angels stand at the entrance of that Masjid in which Jummah salaat is to be offered. They write down the name of the person who enters the Masjid first, and thereafter the name of the person who follows, and they continue doing this. The person who entered first will receive the reward of sacrificing a camel in the path of Allah; the one who followed him will get the reward of sacrificing a cow, thereafter a chicken, thereafter the reward of giving an egg as charity in the path of Allah. Once the khutbah commences, the angels close the register and begin listening to the khutbah. “ (Bukhari and Muslim)

    7. To walk to the Masjid if possible for every step is a reward of a years Nafl Fast (Tirmidhi)

    8. One should listen very attentively to the khutba even if one does not understand. One should not speak or even warn another to keep quite while the khutba is in progress.

    9. To try to sit as close as possible to the Imaam. (Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi)

    10. If the Saffs (rows) are already filled, one should not jump over the shoulders of the Musallies in order to get to the front. (Abu Dawood)

    11. One should not fiddle with clothes or fingers but listen attentively (Ibn Majah)

    12. When the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) name is mentioned in the khutba then it is permissible to recite durood in the heart only without the movement of the lips or tongue.

    13. Between the two khutba’s one should make dua. It is permissible to make Dua without raising hands or moving the lips (I.e., Dua should be made in the heart only without the
movement of the lips or the tongue) (Aadaab -E - Zindagee)

    14. To read: Surah Al A’ala (Sura no 87) in the first rakaat of Jummah Salah and Surah Gaathia (Surah no 88) in the second rakaat. (Bukhari)

    15. Related by Hakim and Bayhaqi, from Abu Sa`id “Whoever recites Surat al-Kahf on Friday, light shall shine forth for him between the two Fridays.” (Ibn Hajar, Talkhis al- Habir)

    16. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said, “Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me.” (Ibn Majah)

    17. Making abundant dua on Jummah

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

    18. Reciting Durood 80 times after Asr:

According to a Hadith recorded in Tabarani on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) : Abu Hurraira (RA) reports that the Holy Prophet (Pbuh) said: “Whoever recites the following Durood eighty times immediately after Asr Salaat on Friday, before standing up from his place, Allah will forgive eighty years of sins and grant him the reward equivalent to eighty years of worship.”

Allahumma salli alaa muhammadinin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa-ala aalihi wasallim tasleema

O Allah bless Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and his family and grant them best of peace. (Jame Sagheer)

    19. Abu Hurraira (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: The five daily prayers, and from one Jummah to the next, are an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin. (Muslim, 233)

    20. It was narrated from Abu Hurraira (Ra) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Whoever does Ghusl then comes to Jummah, and prays as much as Allah decrees for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his sins) between that and the next Jummah and three more days. (Muslim, 857)

Al-Nawawi (Ra) said: The scholars said that what is meant by his being forgiven between the two Jummah and three more days is that a good deed is worth ten like it, so he will be rewarded with ten rewards for each of the good deeds that he did on Friday. Some of our companions said: what is meant by what is between the two Jummah is from Jummah prayer and the khutbah until the same time on the following Friday, so that it will be seven days, no more and no less, then three days are added making ten in all.

    21. Coming early to Jummah brings a great reward.

Abu Hurraira (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever does Ghusl on Friday like Ghusl for janaabah, then goes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour it is as if he offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels come to listen to the khutbah.” (Bukhari, 814 and Muslim, 850)

    22. If a person walks to Jummah prayer, for every step he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.

It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi (Ra) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Whoever does Ghusl on Friday and causes (his wife) to do Ghusl, and sets out early, and comes close to the imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.” (al-Tirmidhi, 496)

Ibn al-Qayyim (Ra) said in Zaad al-Maâ’aad, 1/285: Finally after quoting the hadith which speak of the virtues of Jummah prayer:

What we have quoted, when taken all together, indicates that the expiation of sins from one Friday to the next is subject to all the conditions mentioned above being met, namely doing Ghusl, cleaning oneself, putting on perfume, wearing one's best clothes, walking in a calm and dignified manner, not stepping over people, not pushing between two people, not offending others, praying nafil prayers, listening attentively and avoiding idle speech.

May Allah give us the ability to act upon all of these virtuous deeds and Sunnah of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Ameen

Reciting Surah Kahf on the night or day of Jummah

From Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri, who said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).” (Narrated by al-Daarimi, 3407)

“Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.” (Narrated by al-Haakim, 2/399; al-Bayhaqi, 3/2249)

So let us make the effort to recite this Surah every Jummah either in the night or day of Jummah to gain these immense rewards.

Allah led those who came before us away from Friday (Jummah)

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه and Hudhayfah رضي الله عنه said: The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Allaah led those who came before us away from Friday (Jumu'ah). The Jews had Saturday, and the Christians had Sunday. Then Allaah brought us and Allaah guided us to Friday. So there is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and thus they will follow us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the people of this world but we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection, and we will be dealt with before all others.” [Narrated by Muslim, 856]

    Jumma better than both Eids

Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “Friday is the “mother” of all days and the most virtuous in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. In the sight of Allah Ta’ala it has more greatness than*Eid ul-Fitr*and*Eid ul-Ad’haa. ” (Ibn Majah)

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

It is Jummatul Wida which is the last Friday of Ramadan and so we should make the best of this blessed day and act upon all the Sunnah's and recommended actions. We should also increase our Worship of Allah, thanking him, and making a firm commitment to him and to internalise in our minds that we will change for the better and strive to bring our deen into our lives and to do everything to please him and refrain from anything that may anger or displease him.

We should also send many Durood as it is recommended to do so particularly on Jumma...May Allah grant us many more Jummatul Wida. Ameen

There is a special hour on Friday, during which all prayers are accepted and answered by Allah, all Glory and Praise be to Him. This is part of the blessings that Allah has blessed this day with, over all the other days of the week.

Aby Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet said:

"On Friday, there is an hour during which, if any Muslim is standing in front of Allah in salat, and asking Allah for something good, he will be granted his request."
Then he made a sign with his hands, showing that it was a very short period of time.
    al-Bukhari (935)

There are numerous opinions as to exact hour of Friday during which this occurs, but two opinions are the strongest:

    · When the Imam sits down between the two khutbahs until the end of the khutbah
    · After the Asr prayer until the Maghrib prayer.

Ibn Al-Qayyim preferred the second over the first one (Zad-Al-maad 1/378-396). This because of the following hadith:

Friday has twelve hours (or part to it). There is one hour during which if a Muslim asks Allah anything, Allah will give it to him, so find it during the last hour after Asr.

Abu Dawud (#926 of Sahih al-Sunan) and AnNasaai (#1316 of Sahih al-Sunan)

This is also the opinion of the vast majority of early scholars as also of the Prophet's companions - that this hour occurs after Asr prayer, right before sunset.

Source: Du'a, Weapon of the Believer: A treatise on the status and etiquette of du'a in Islam, by Abu Ammaar Yasir Qadhi

So while this hour could be any time on Friday, and thus du'a can be made throughout Friday, there are certain times which are more likely, so we can strive to make more du'a then.

    And Allah knows best.

In certain aspects the night of Jumma even better than LaylatulQadr

It is related from Imam Ahmad rahmatullahialayh that he said that in certain aspects the rank of the night of jumu'ah is even higher than*Laylatul Qadr*One of the reasons for this is that it was on this night that Rasulullah (Allah bless him & give him peace) appeared in the womb of his mother Rasulullah's (Allah bless him & give him peace) appearance in this world was a cause of so much good and blessings both in this world and in the hereafter that they cannot be enumerated. The Prophet (Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam) is reported to have said, “Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jumua’h since they are presented to me.” (Ibne Majah)

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

    The hour of acceptance

There is an hour of acceptance, and it is the hour in which no Muslim happens to supplicate to Allah for something except that it will be given to him.

In the hadeeth reported by al-Bukharee and Muslim on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)said:*Indeed, there is an hour (opportune time) on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while praying and asks something from Allah, then Allah will definitely meet his demand.*And he (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)pointed out the shortness of that time with his hands.

Many scholars state that this hour is the last hour before Maghrib on Friday. So we should try to increase our Dua's in this period.

May Allah give us the ability to make the best of this special hour every Friday. Ameen

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

    AsSalamOAlaikum WaRahmatuAllah WaBarkatuhu

Today is the day known as Good Friday, this day is observed by Christians around the world, for them it is a holy day, this is the day in which Jesus was betrayed and taken onto the cross and crucified, hence the Good Friday.

I ask... What is so good about a Friday in which a prophet of God is killed by his enemies? A day in which a prophet of God is humiliated by his enemies?

The real reason why today is Good Friday is the fact that Allah saved Jesus Alayhi Salam!

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise (4:157-158)

Make the most of this Friday as your away from work and get the chance to fulfill the obligations of Jummah. InshaAllah.

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

    Assalam o alikum

ok so im very confused now about the four rakah's before jummah :S

my teacher told me something else n then i read this :

    Question:

When I go to the mosque on Friday the athaan is pronounced, then everyone prays 2 or 4 rakaat. Then the athan is again pronounced and immediately after it iqamah .Having prayed 2 Jum'ah rakaat people pray again 2 or 4 rakaat.Besides, the imaam when supplicating raises hands then wipes his face and everyone follows him. Is it bid'ah? If so,what should I do (just look at others?)

    Answer:

    Praise be to Allaah.

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come out of his house on the day of Jumu’ah (Friday) and climb up on his minbar. Then the muezzin would give the Adhaan, and when he finished, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would start his khutbah.

If there were any Sunnah prayer to be done before Jumu’ah, he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would have told them about it and directed them to do it after the Adhaan, and he would have done it himself. At the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) there was nothing apart from the Adhaan just before the khutbah.

Hence the majority of the imaams agreed that there is no sunnah to be done at a specific time before Jumu’ah with a specific number of rak’ahs, because that would have been reported from the words or actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and nothing of that nature has been reported from him.

This is the madhhab of Maalik, al-Shaafa’i and most of his companions, and is the well known view in the madhhab of Ahmad.

    Al-‘Iraaqi said:
“I have not seen anything to indicate that the three imaams recommended praying Sunnah before it [Jumu’ah].”

    The muhaddith al-Albaani commented:
For that reason this so-called Sunnah is not mentioned in 'Kitaab al-Umm' by Imaam al-Shaafa’i, or in 'al-Masaa’il' by Imaam Ahmad, or by any of the other early imaams, as far as I know.

    Hence I say:
Those who pray this Sunnah are not following the Messenger or imitating any of the imaams; on the contrary, they are imitating the later scholars who are like them in that they are also imitators [of earlier scholars] rather than mujtahideen [scholars who investigate and form their own rulings]. I am amazed to see an imitator imitating another imitator.
    (See al-Qawl al-Mubeen, 60, 374).

Moreover, between the first call of Jumu’ah prayer and the second call, there should be sufficient time for people to get ready to pray, not just the time it takes to pray two rak’ahs or thereabouts, as is done in some countries and some mosques.

With regard to making du’aa’ together in one voice behind the imaam after the prayer,

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen answered this question in al-Fataawaa, p. 368, where he said:

“This is one of the bid’ahs which was not reported from the Prophet or from his companions. What is prescribed in Islam is for people to remember Allaah Alone after the prayer, in accordance with the teachings of the Messenger of Allaah, and this should be done aloud, as reported in Saheeh al-Bukhaari from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both), who said:

“People used to raise their voices in Dhikr [remembrance of Allaah] after finishing the prescribed prayer at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).”

With regard to the prayer after Jumu’ah,

    Ibn al-Qayyim said in al-Zaad (1/440):
When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had prayed Jumu’ah, he would enter his house and pray two Rak’ahs of Sunnah, and he commanded those who had prayed it to pray four rak’ahs afterwards.

Our shaykh, Abu’l-‘Abbaas Ibn Taymiyah said:
if he prayed in the mosque, he would pray four, and if he prayed at home, he would pray two.

I say: this is what is indicated by many ahaadeeth.

Abu Dawood reported in his Sunan (1130) from Ibn Umar that when he prayed in the mosque, he prayed four and when he prayed at home, he prayed two.

With regard to wiping the face after making du’aa’,

This is not reported in any saheeh hadeeth; indeed, some of the scholars stated that it is bid’ah. See 'Mu’jam al-Bida’ (p. 227).

Do not do that which is bid’ah and do not take part in it; advise and enjoin people to follow the Sunnah; remind them and tell them about the Islamic ruling. We ask Allaah to guide us all to the Straight Path; may Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad.

From Jummah to Jummah & Ramadan to Ramadan are expiation of sins

Abu Huraira Radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that the Prophet Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said: “The five daily Salaat, oneJummah*Salaah till the next*Jummah*Salaah and one Ramadhan till the next Ramadhan are all expiations for the time between them provided that major sins are abstained from.”(Sahih Muslim)

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

Jummah - Eid day every week

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said, describing the special virtues of Friday:*

It is a day of ‘Eid that is repeated every week. (Zaad al-Ma‘aad, 1/369)

Thus the Muslims have three Eids: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, which come once every year, and Jumu‘ah which is repeated once every week.
