Exclamation The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah (OP)

The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

Ali Ibn Abu Taalib (RA) narrated: on the pulpit in the mosque of Kufah:
When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. The angels come early in the morning, sit at the door of the mosque, and record that so-and-so came at the first hour, and so-and-so came at the second hour until the imam comes out (for preaching). When a man sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), where he remains silent and does not interrupt, he will receive a double reward. If he stays away, sits in a place where he cannot listen (to the sermon), silent, and does not interrupt, he will receive the reward only once. If he sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), and he does not remain silent, he will have the burden of it. If anyone says to his companion sitting beside him to be silent (while the imam is preaching), he is guilty of idle talk. Anyone who interrupts (during the sermon) will receive nothing (no reward) on that Friday. Then he (the narrator) says in the end of this tradition: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say so. (Abu Dawood 1046)

    1. Jummah preparations should begin on Thursday such as clipping the nails, removing of the hair etc (Ihya aul-Uloom, vol. 1, page 161)

    2. To have a bath (Ghusl) (Bukhari, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

On one Friday, The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "O Muslims! Allah Ta'ala has made this day a day of Eid. So have a bath on this day, whoever has perfume should apply it, and use the Miswaak. “(Ibn Majah)

    3. To use Miswaak (Ibid)

    4. To use Attar (Perfume) (Ibid)

    5. To wear nice clothes (Abu Dawood, Chapter of Ghusl on the day of Jummah)

    6. To proceed early as possible to the Masjid for Jummah

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "On the day of Jummah, the angels stand at the entrance of that Masjid in which Jummah salaat is to be offered. They write down the name of the person who enters the Masjid first, and thereafter the name of the person who follows, and they continue doing this. The person who entered first will receive the reward of sacrificing a camel in the path of Allah; the one who followed him will get the reward of sacrificing a cow, thereafter a chicken, thereafter the reward of giving an egg as charity in the path of Allah. Once the khutbah commences, the angels close the register and begin listening to the khutbah. “ (Bukhari and Muslim)

    7. To walk to the Masjid if possible for every step is a reward of a years Nafl Fast (Tirmidhi)

    8. One should listen very attentively to the khutba even if one does not understand. One should not speak or even warn another to keep quite while the khutba is in progress.

    9. To try to sit as close as possible to the Imaam. (Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi)

    10. If the Saffs (rows) are already filled, one should not jump over the shoulders of the Musallies in order to get to the front. (Abu Dawood)

    11. One should not fiddle with clothes or fingers but listen attentively (Ibn Majah)

    12. When the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) name is mentioned in the khutba then it is permissible to recite durood in the heart only without the movement of the lips or tongue.

    13. Between the two khutba’s one should make dua. It is permissible to make Dua without raising hands or moving the lips (I.e., Dua should be made in the heart only without the
movement of the lips or the tongue) (Aadaab -E - Zindagee)

    14. To read: Surah Al A’ala (Sura no 87) in the first rakaat of Jummah Salah and Surah Gaathia (Surah no 88) in the second rakaat. (Bukhari)

    15. Related by Hakim and Bayhaqi, from Abu Sa`id “Whoever recites Surat al-Kahf on Friday, light shall shine forth for him between the two Fridays.” (Ibn Hajar, Talkhis al- Habir)

    16. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said, “Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me.” (Ibn Majah)

    17. Making abundant dua on Jummah

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

    18. Reciting Durood 80 times after Asr:

According to a Hadith recorded in Tabarani on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) : Abu Hurraira (RA) reports that the Holy Prophet (Pbuh) said: “Whoever recites the following Durood eighty times immediately after Asr Salaat on Friday, before standing up from his place, Allah will forgive eighty years of sins and grant him the reward equivalent to eighty years of worship.”

Allahumma salli alaa muhammadinin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa-ala aalihi wasallim tasleema

O Allah bless Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and his family and grant them best of peace. (Jame Sagheer)

    19. Abu Hurraira (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: The five daily prayers, and from one Jummah to the next, are an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin. (Muslim, 233)

    20. It was narrated from Abu Hurraira (Ra) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Whoever does Ghusl then comes to Jummah, and prays as much as Allah decrees for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his sins) between that and the next Jummah and three more days. (Muslim, 857)

Al-Nawawi (Ra) said: The scholars said that what is meant by his being forgiven between the two Jummah and three more days is that a good deed is worth ten like it, so he will be rewarded with ten rewards for each of the good deeds that he did on Friday. Some of our companions said: what is meant by what is between the two Jummah is from Jummah prayer and the khutbah until the same time on the following Friday, so that it will be seven days, no more and no less, then three days are added making ten in all.

    21. Coming early to Jummah brings a great reward.

Abu Hurraira (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever does Ghusl on Friday like Ghusl for janaabah, then goes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour it is as if he offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels come to listen to the khutbah.” (Bukhari, 814 and Muslim, 850)

    22. If a person walks to Jummah prayer, for every step he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.

It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi (Ra) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Whoever does Ghusl on Friday and causes (his wife) to do Ghusl, and sets out early, and comes close to the imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.” (al-Tirmidhi, 496)

Ibn al-Qayyim (Ra) said in Zaad al-Maâ’aad, 1/285: Finally after quoting the hadith which speak of the virtues of Jummah prayer:

What we have quoted, when taken all together, indicates that the expiation of sins from one Friday to the next is subject to all the conditions mentioned above being met, namely doing Ghusl, cleaning oneself, putting on perfume, wearing one's best clothes, walking in a calm and dignified manner, not stepping over people, not pushing between two people, not offending others, praying nafil prayers, listening attentively and avoiding idle speech.

May Allah give us the ability to act upon all of these virtuous deeds and Sunnah of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Ameen

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

Your guide to a good Jummah (Friday prayer)

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “On the day of Jummah, the angels stand at the entrance of that masjid in which Jumuah salat is to be offered. They write down the name of the person who enters the masjid first, and thereafter the name of the person who follows, and they continue doing this. The person who entered first will receive the reward of sacrificing a camel in the path of Allah; the one who followed him will get the reward of sacrificing a cow, thereafter a chicken, thereafter the reward of giving an egg as charity in the path of Allah.Once the khutbah commences, the angels close the register and begin listening to the khutbah.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

They say Friday is the best day of the week but for a Muslim we have far more to look forward to other than the weekend off work and school! Friday is a day of Allah's Generosity when it comes to whom He wishes to Forgive.

The name Jummah is derived from the word Al-Jam’ in Arabic which means to gather, as Muslims gather on this day every week, and Allah has commanded the believers to gather for His worship, “Oh you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for Jummah (Friday prayer), come fast to the remembrance of Allah.”

Jummah thus becomes a great reason for a get together and rush to receive the blessings from Allah. From one Jummah to the next, there is an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin. (Muslim, 233)

So before you head off to the masjid, here are some precious sunnah acts of Jummah to make your Friday that little bit more special (rewarding).

    Sunnah acts of Friday

    Miswak

    Get between those gaps!

Sunnah & Acts of Jummah day:

1 - Bathing (Ghusl) on the day of Jumumah (Bukhari 1951)
2 - To wear nice clothes (Abu Dawood,)
3 - Use perfume, and use the Miswaak. (Ibn Majah)
    4 - Going early to Jumuah Prayer (Bukhari 929 & Muslim 1964 )
5 - Walking to Masjid for Jumuah Paryer (Al-Tirmidi, 496)

The best reward is at the front row!

6 - Try to sit as close as possible to the Imam. (Majah, Tirmidhi)
7 - Listening attentively to Khutbah (Sermon) (Bukhari 934)
8 - Reading Surah tul Kahf (Before sun sets on Friday). [Saheeh al-Targheeb, 836]
9 - Visiting the Sick & Attending Muslims Funeral [Trimidhi]
10- Increase your Durood (example: Durood Ibrahim) “Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me.” (Ibn Majah) Salams upon the Prophet.

    Don't forget..

    Dua

Ask the one who never refuses to answer

Dont forget, after the Jummah prayer the good blessings don't stop there!

The day of Jumu’ah includes an hour during which all supplications are accepted. Abu Hurayrah, narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said:

“On (the day of) Jumu’ah is an hour during which Allah gives to a Muslim servant standing in prayer whatever he asks for.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

So make sure you give yourself that much needed 'ME' time with Allah (between Asr and Magrib) and ask away!!

Friday charity is more virtuous than any other day!

    Last but in no way least;

Giving your charity on Jummah carries more virtue than other days. Ka’b, narrated that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“Charity given during the day of Jumu’ah is greater (in reward) than any other day.”

We are trying to start fundraising early this year to secure our prayer marquee for thousdands of Musallis this Eid, if you would like to recieve the rewards of charity on Jummah click here or donate at www.justgiving.com/my1eid

"The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity."
    - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 604

"Save yourself from hellfire by giving even half a date-fruit in charity." - Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Hadith 498

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

The superiority of the Fridays of Ramadan is like the superiority of Ramadan to other months

    Jabir (ra) narrates;

“The superiority of Friday -in Ramadan- over other months is like the superiority of Ramadan to the other months.” (Daylami)

According to Hadith, each word of the All-Wise Quran has ten merits; each is counted as ten merits and will yield ten fruits in Paradise. While during Ramadan, each word bears not ten fruits but a thousand, and verses like Ayat al-Kursi thousands for each word, and on Fridays in Ramadan it is even more. And on the Night of Power, each word is counted as thirty thousand merits.

Indeed, the All-Wise Quran, each of whose words yield thirty thousand eternal fruits, is like a luminous Tree of Tuba that gains for believers in Ramadan millions of those eternal fruits. (Badiuzzaman Said Nursi, Letters)

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

Today is the last Friday of Ramadan & we should make the best of this blessed day by:

    1: Making lots of Du’a’.

On this day there is a time when a person’s Du’a’ is definitely accepted inshaAllah. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “On this day there is a time when no Muslim stands and prays, asking Allah for something, but Allah will grant him it” – and he gestured with his hands to indicate how short that time is. (Al-Bukhaari, 893; Muslim, 852)

Ibn Al-Qayyim(Ra) stated this hour is most likely the last hour after Asr to Maghrib [ Zad Al-Ma’ad 1/389-390]

    3 – Reading Surat al-Kahf.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever reads Surat al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light between the two Fridays.” (al-Haakim)

4 - Giving charity on Friday is the best day of the week to do so plus it is the last Friday of Ramadan.

Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “Giving charity of Friday with regard to the rest of the week is the best day to do so. This is similar to the superiority of giving charity during Ramadhan with regard to the rest of the months.”

Ka’b(Ra)said: “Giving Sadaqah on Friday is better than giving it on any other day of the week”.

Yes of course it is acceptable to recite this durood as it is said after the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) name and is the shortest durood sending peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).

The best durood is the one recited towards the end of Salah after Tashahud.

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

    12 Sunnah of Jummah

    1. TAKE A BATH (GHUSL):

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudr reports: I testify that Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W) said, ‘The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and also cleaning of teeth with Siwak and using perfume, if available’. [Sahih Bukhari]

    2. USE SIWAK TO CLEAN YOUR TEETH

    3. WEAR CLEAN, PRESENTABLE AND PREFERABLY NEW CLOTHES BEFORE THE FRIDAY PRAYER:

“Put on your adornment on every occasion of prayer” (Surat al-A’raf (7): 31)

    4. APPLY PERFUME/ OUD (MAKE SURE IT’S NON-ALCOHOLIC)

    5. CUT YOUR NAILS:

Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) reported that ‘Five are the demonstrations of fitra (nature/ instinct): 1) circumcision, 2) evacuating the hair underneath the navel, 3) trimming the moustache, 4) trimming the nails, and 5) culling the hair under the arms.’

    6. READ SURAH AL-KAHF

    We can read:

The first 10 Ayahs of Surah Al-Kahf

The last 10 Ayahs of Surah Al-Kahf

    Both A and B

    Ideally, the complete Surah Al-Kahf.

The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Whoever reads Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light between the two Fridays.” (Narrated by al-Haakim; Grade Saheeh by al-Albaani)

    7. SEND DUROOD AND BLESSINGS UPON THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (S.A.W) ABUNDANTLY:

It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws that the Prophet (S.A.W) said: “The best of your days is Friday. On that day Adam (A.S.) was created; on that day he died; on that day the Trumpet will be blown, and on that day all of the creation will swoon. So send a lot of blessings upon me, for your blessings will be shown to me.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, how will our blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?” He said, “Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets, peace be upon them.”

[Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1047; classed as Saheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim]

    8. MAKE LOTS OF DUAS BETWEEN ASR AND MAGHREB:

“There is a special hour on Friday, during which all prayers are accepted and answered by Allah, all Glory and Praise be to Him. This is part of the blessings that Allah has blessed this day with, over all the other days of the week. “On this day there is a time when no Muslim stands and prays, asking Allah for something, but Allah will grant him it” – and he gestured with his hands to indicate how short that time is. [Bukhari and Muslim]

Ibn Al-Qayyim (Rahim Ullah) said that this golden hour is to be found in the time after the Asr prayer until the Maghreb Adhaan (end of day): “Friday has twelve hours (or part of it). There is one hour during which if a Muslim asks Allah anything, Allah will give it to him, so find it during the last hour after Asr.” [Abu Dawud & An-Nasai]

The following Sunnahs of Jummah are applicable to men
Performing the Jumuah prayer at the masjid is among the most important Sunnahs of our Prophet (S.A.W). Going to the masjid to pray was a norm for the Prophet (S.A.W.) and his followers at the time. And since Friday prayer is superior than the rest, it’s silly to even question the act of going to the masjid for Jumuah.

The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Prayer offered in a group is twenty-five times better than prayer offered at home or in the marketplace. If any one of you does wudhu and does it well, then comes to the mosque for no other purpose than to pray, then he does not take a single step but Allah raises him in status one degree thereby and removes one sin from him, until he enters the mosque. Then he is in a state of prayer so long as he is waiting for the prayer, and the angels send blessings upon him so long as he remains in the spot where he prayed, saying ‘O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him,’ so long as he does not pass wind.” [Bukhari and Muslim].

    9. GO TO THE MASJID AS EARLY AS YOU CAN:

Allah says in the Quran (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Salah (prayer) on Friday (Jumuah prayer), come to the remembrance of Allah [Jumuah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salah (prayer)] and leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if you did but know!” [al-Jumu’ah 62:9]

Punctuality is not over-rated. Check out this Hadith:

Abu Hurairah reported that Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W) said,’ When it is Jumuah, the Angels stand at the gate of the masjid and keep on writing the names of the persons coming to the masjid in succession according to their arrivals. The example of the one who enters the masjid in the earliest hour is that of one offering a camel (in sacrifice); the one coming next is like one offering a cow, and then a ram; and then a chicken; and then an egg respectively. When the Imam comes out (for Jumu’ah sermon) they (i.e. Angels) fold their papers and listen to the sermon.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

    10. WALK TO THE MASJID INSTEAD OF TAKING THE CAR:

Abu Hurairah (R.A) reported that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said:

He who purifies (performs Wudhu) himself in his house and then walks to one of the houses of Allah (masjid) for performing an obligatory Salah, one step of his will wipe out his sins and another step will elevate his rank (in Jannah).” (Muslim)

    11. DON’T SEPARATE TWO PEOPLE TO MAKE A SPACE FOR YOURSELF. SIT IN AN EMPTY SPACE.

    12. LISTEN TO THE KHUTBAH OF JUMMAH (FRIDAY SERMON) ATTENTIVELY:

Listening to the Khutbah attentively includes not interrupting the speaker, not whispering/ talking to the person next to you and not asking questions during the Khutbah (staying silent even when you don’t understand something).

This hadith clearly talks about the importance of listening to the Friday sermon:

“Whoever says to his friend while Imam is delivering Khutbah on Friday “keep quiet” has also commit an absurdity.” (Muslim and Bukhari)

Winding up, here’s a hadith that covers all the essential Sunnahs of Jumuah:

Prophet (S.A.W) said “if a man takes a bath on Friday, cleans himself as much as he can, oils his hair, applies perfume available in his house, sets forth for the mosque, does not separate two people (to make a seat for himself). Performs as many prayers as written (by Allah) for him, remains silent when the Imam speaks, for his sins between that Friday and the following Friday will be forgiven” [Al-Bukhari].

    And Allah (S.W.T) knows best!

Re: The Virtues and Sunnah's of Jummah

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, a light will shine for him from beneath his feet to the clouds of the sky, which will shine for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be forgiven (his sins) between the two Fridays.’”

Al-Mundhiri said this was narrated by Abu Bakr ibn Mardawayh in his Tafseer, with an isnaad with which there was nothing wrong. (al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, 1/298)
