Angel Jibreel (as) told Rasulullah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہٖ وسلم the follwing incident about a man in the past who worshipped Allah Ta'ala continuously for 500 years. He was granted a shelter on top of a mountain that was surrounded by salty water. However, Allah عزوجل caused a stream of sweet water to flow through the mountain for that individual. The man would drink from this water and use it to make ablution. Allah عزوجل also raised a pomegranate tree from which the man would eat one fruit every day.
One day, this person supplicated to Allah عزوجل that, "Oh Allah عزوجل , bring my death while I am in the state of prostration." Allah عزوجل accepted this dua of his. Whenever Jibrail (as) came down to the Earth, he found this man prostrating to Allah عزوجل . Jibrail (as) said that on the day of Judgement, Allah عزوجل will tell the angels to take this individual to Paradise through His mercy. However, this man will insist that he should enter paradise through the good deeds that he had performed.
Then, Allah عزوجل will tell the angels to compare his good deeds with the blessings that were given to him in the world. It will be seen that 500 years of his worship does not even equal to the gift of eye sight that was given to him by Allahعزوجل . The angels will be asked to take him towards the hell fire. Then the man will plead, "Oh Allah!عزوجل Enter me into Paradise only through Your mercy." At that point, the following discussion will take place between Allah and that man.
Allahعزوجل : Oh my servant, who created you?
The worshipper: Oh Allah, You have created me.
Allahعزوجل : Were you created because of the good deeds you have done or because of My mercy?
The worshipper: Because of Your mercy.
Allahعزوجل : Who granted you the ability to worship for 500 years?
The worshipper: Oh the Almighty! You have granted me that ability.
Allahعزوجل : Who placed you on the mountain surrounded by the ocean? Who caused a stream of sweet water to flow in between the salty water? Who caused a pomegranate tree to grow for you? Who granted you death while in the state of prostration?
The worshipper: Oh the Sustainer of the Worlds! You have done all of these. Then Allahعزوجل will say, "All these have happened due to My mercy and you too will enter Paradise only through My Mercy."

We can never thank Allahعزوجل for the blessings that He has given us. Let us use these blessings to recognize Allahعزوجل before our death.
If Allah helps you, none can overcome you; and if He forsakes you, who is there after Him that can help you? And in Allah (Alone) let believers put their trust.
Surah Ale Imran : 160
It was narrated that Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) climbed up Uhud, accompanied by Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan, and the mountain shook with them. He struck it with his foot and said: “Stand firm, O Uhud, for there is no one on you but a Prophet or a Siddeeq or two martyrs.”

Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Taala) does not inspire seeking forgiveness in a slave whom he wishes to punish.
Very good post. May allah grant us the ability to make Shukr and exercise Sabr. The greatest gift Allah has given us is that of Imaan, may we cherish it and die in no other state but with Imaan. When I really ponder about it, it sends a shudder through my body of how easily I could have been amongst the billions of disbelievers and died in that state. I still pray to Allah to bring me entirely onto the straight path and make me from amongst the shuhadaa and the righteous. Ameen.
This story brings tears to my eyes.
To realize how much blessings and mercy that Allah SWT has given us and yet I rarely think about it Astaghfirullah
may Allah SWT grants us death in a state of khusnul khotimah. amiin.
Just for the sake of having the Prophet's sunnah more preserved i would like to mention here that a great shaikh of hadith who lives in Egypt, Abu Ishaq Al-Huwejnij said that this hadith is not authentic, hence should not be said that our beloved Prophet said it. He (Abu Ishaq) referes to it as a great story to tell; however, he always points it out that it is not a strong hadith!
I suggest telling this story a lot because it is full of benefits but please do not refer it as a authentic hadith.
Jazakallah khayr for sharing... Allah has give me soo much and i'm still...
May Allah grant us Jannah due to his mercy... aminnn...
25:36 And the true servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk the earth with humility and when the ignorant address them, they respond with words of peace.
