Al Quran, Surah 2 (Al Baqara), Verse 21:
O mankind! Worship your Lord Who created you and created those who came before you; by doing this you may expect to guard yourself against evil. (2:21)

The term 'ibaadah which comes from 'abd (slave/servant/total devotee is not limited to prayer but complete service in every aspect possible.
