    halal cosmetics? (e.g. soap/toothpaste)

    Report bad ads?

    Asalaamu alaykum,

Recently whilst I was back home, I noticed that the Colgate toothpastes had halal symbol on it. After I came back to England, I tried to look for this or at least see if it states vegetarian on the colgate toothpastes but I didn't find anything. This has led me to do more research on cosmetics and I have found out that things such as shampoo/soap etc can contain haram ingredients.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been very easy to locate a list of what is halal in UK so my question is, what should we do? From my understanding, even if we use such soap and shampoo to cleanse ourselves and then wash with water, we are removing all impurities? What about the toothpaste? I'm still using Colgate although I do remember seeing one brand of toothpaste which was for about 8 pounds and vegetarian friendly. At the time I didn't buy it, because I understood that it would be okay to use Colgate as well as I would be rinsing my mouth out afterwards and 8 pounds seemed like a lot for a medium sized tube. However, obviously, if Colgate in UK is haram for me to use, then I would spend more money to purchase something halal but is this really the case?

    Does anyone have any answers....?

    wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah

£8 for a tube of toothpaste? must be organic but still what a rip-off!

the best way to find out is to phone/email the company.. secondly, you dont need toothpaste to clean your teeth... miswak, salt, baking soda work just as well. Toothpaste is actually harmful. You can make your own insha Allah. Same with shampoos and other products unless you buy strictly organic which is a waste of money as you can make your own.

Also it doesn't make sense to clean yourself with the very things that are impure even if you're going to rinse them off. Remember both the hair and skin absorb some of what is applied to them. So even washing them off with clean water isn't going to be sufficient.

    Re: halal cosmetics? (e.g. soap/toothpaste)

Would like to share this home-made remedy i came across a few days ago. It's for lightening areas of skin that darken with friction. But I tried it as a deodrant and it's amazing. Better than the organic ones I already use.

    1 tsb lemon juice
    1 tsb rose water
    1 tsb olive oil

Beat well and apply to skin.. you can leave it on as there's nothing harmful in it. Rose water is also great for skin and on it's own makes a great toner.

What does "halal toothpaste" even mean? I'm pretty sure most, if not all, toothpaste (and products like it) are permissible/halal...

its because of the gelatine inside it. and of course some chemicals that can be avoided. Most of them using animal gelatine which hardly you can find the halal ones.

I am going to slowly try and contact most major brands and find out more information as I go along.

Also if we google halal cosmetics we can get websites for halal makeup and stuff and halal bodycare products too. I have to admit, I haven't tried these yet although I will purchase makeup products soon Insha Allah.

I just came across these: www.treaclemoon.net

They don't have any animal-derived ingredients and aren't tested on animals so might be worth a look.
