Praises to Allah Alone and the benediction and salutation on him after whom there is no prophet, to proceed;

UCL Islamic Society Presents as part of the 'Preparing To Stand Before Allah Series' (PSBA) 2008:

The Sweetness Of Imaan
by Hasan Al-Somaaly

'Verily he has tasted the sweetness of Imaan, he who is accepting of Allah as his Lord, Islam as his Deen and of Muhammad as his Messenger.'

'There are three qualities, whosoever has them will taste the sweetness of Iman: loving Allah and His Messenger above all else, loving someone solely for the sake of Allah, and hating to return to disbelief after Allah has rescued him from it, as much as he would hate being thrown into Hellfire.' (Related by Al-Bukhari)

The concept of Imaan is very often trivialised and relegated to a lowly insignificant position in our various communities.The grave misconception is commonly made that Imaan is merely to believe in the oneness of Allah, where many think it to be something which remains within the confines of one's heart and has no second or third dimension to it. Imaan as taught to us by our beloved messenger Muhammed (saw), the most truthful and blessed of men, is to profess the deen of Allah (Al-Islam) as the truth on one's tongue, to have firm conviction of the truth of this profession in one's heart, and to implement the requirements of this profession with the body and heart.

The prophet of Allah (saw) also informs us:

'None of you has believed until his very inclinations are subservient to that with which I have been sent.'

This condition of surrender, of harmony between our desires and inclinations and what Allah loves and hates, is the fullness of iman and what gives the 'sweetness' that our Prophet (saw) speaks of. In this lecture, Shaykh Hasan Al-Somaaly explores the above ahadith in greater detail and provides steps from the Quran and authentic Sunnah on how to practically attain the 'sweetness of Imaan' and of course, how to protect it from withering...

'Allah hath made a promise to those who have Imaan and do righteous works:
Theirs will be forgiveness and an immense and most generous reward' (Surah Ma'idah - Verse 9)
