This page once belonged to the largest and among the most majestic Qur'an manuscripts produced in the medieval Maghrib. Qur'anic books and calligraphy in the Maghrib retained archaic features long since abandoned farther east. Such features include the use of parchment instead of polished paper; a square format; and deep, sweeping, rounded letter terminals. While the effect may be somewhat stiff, it is undeniably elegant and the elements of illumination as well as the overall graphic impact are nothing short of superb.

no i'm not.
i'm an american. i am teaching myself urdu and can read some arabic, though i only know a few words. i am familiar with al-fatiha.
