View Full Version : Adam and Eve (pbuh) in Islam:What was he like?

I would rather bring my question here instead on other sites for now. I have read quite a few different things on Adam ( pbuh). What was he like, was there the snake in the garden, was he a giant? These sort of things confuse me. Any clarifacation on this would be appreciated.

The story of the snake is in the Bible, according to the Qur'an - Iblis (satan) whispered to both Adam and his wife Hawwa [Eve] (he never just influenced Eve like the Bible may say.) We also know they both repented, so Allah forgave them. There is no original sin in Islam, every soul is responsible for its ownself.

Hello,

I just wanted to add about the physical description of Adam. Every prophet or nabee had a predestined name. Remember the sentence "Moussa kana Adam". The word Adam describes a certain colour of skin. Is there any brother to help me with a link? Or anyone who's good in Arabic?

Adam was 30 cubits as far as I know. Thats 90 feet tall or as high as 7 double decker buses. Eve obviously would be on the same scale, hopefully. Perhaps 77ft tall or thereabouts, if we take current human height relations.

Some interesting facts based on these measurements. His hands would have been one meter wide across the palm, the fingers thicker than drainpipes. He would have weighed about 200 tonnes.

Yup , he's normal sized in the bible. Its a talking snake that tells Eve to scrump the Apple which dooms mankind to an eternity of unimaginable punishment. Eden is on earth some stuff like that.
Fairs fair though, it was a magic apple.

In this hadith it is to signify the dark skin of Musa (as), but the word Adam, can also be used to describe light (caucasian) skin colour. The Prophet(saw), used it with Issa (as) too.

Adam himself was of dark skin, which coincidentially, goes hand in hand with current research suggesting that the earliest humans originated from east africa ( Ethiopean, Somalian region).

(Picture of the dead giant could not be pictured in here)

I believe it's true and fact, eventhough IF it is hoax, I who had found a Shahih hadits which said like "Adam 'alaihi Salaam height was 60 Dzira' (30 Metres) and his descendants got shorter and shorter in height."

This is what I will be responsible in the Day of Al Qiyamah.

To be correct, it's actually 60 cubits:

Narrated Abu Hurayrah:

The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He created him, He said to him, "Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring." So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alaikum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, "As-salamu Alaika wa Rahmatu-l-lahi" (i.e. Peace and Allah's Mercy be upon you). Thus the angels added to Adam's salutation the expression, 'Wa Rahmatu-l-lahi,' Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam's creation."

(Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 55, No. 543)

A cubit is 18 inches, which is 1.5 feet. Hence, 1.5 x 60 = 90.

The Arabic is 60 Dzira', Dzira' means the range from the tip of the fingers to the elbow, it is 5o cm, so 50 x 60= 3,000 . 30 Meters tall.

And people are getting shorter from time to time. Have you see Fir'aun's corpse, isn't he as tall as 2 Meters?.

Yes, that's what a cubit is; the length of the forearm, from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger, which varied from 17-21 inches (43-53 cm). However, the average length was approximately 18 inches or 46 cm, which is why that's the standard one that is used. 50 cm is about 19.8 inches, so its fairly close. At 60 cubits, it would be about a 9 ft. difference.

So, which ever standard cubit/Dzira' measurement you choose to use for Adam's height, it would be between 85 ft. and 105 ft.

People are getting taller actually.
And its questionable whether an individual of Adams height would even survive.

it doesn't matter how tall Adam was, this hasn't much to do with Islam as a religion.

why do people find it hard to belive the size of Adaam (ra)? when there are hadiths that state the size of humans in the akhira will be enormous! increase surface area increase pain or pleasure

Yes, but that is a trend that started in the last 200 years.

Why do you say that?

Yes, well he might need to eat the Coelacanth fishes, the whales, and eat a lot of fruits. So it's not that hard quite frankly.

Have you seen the corpse of Ramses II? He was 2 Meters, that's a rare thing now. So we couldn't say that all people of this century are 2 Meters tall, but the people of Egypt at that time were 2 Meters, like him.

And that's right the denizens of Jannah's face will be made similar to Adam's and also the height, the Shahih Hadits said that. Thanks. Iman couldn't be bought but by ourselves.

Also, Aadam (AS) was created from dirt; picked from all different parts of the earth. So that's why the children of Aadam (AS), are black, white, good, bad and everything in between.

His body was moulded by Allah (SWT), and as far as I'm aware is the only Nabi to have this honour. To be created by the 'hands' of Allah (SWT).

Also, it's said that Aadam was created on his own image. This means that he was created in the adult form. He didn't go through the stages we went through such as embryo, feotus, child, adolescence etc.

Na'am that's right, that's why Adam 'alaihi Salaam also had bad character inside him, and that belongs to all human kind.
