There is a lot of Islam-bashing going on at the Have your Say section of the BBC News website in a topic called Should aspects of Sharia law be used in the UK?. The topic is infested with bigots who are denouncing not only Sharia, but Islam and Muslims as well. The same thing happens every time there is an Islam-related topic on the website, but this time I have decided to do something about it. The topic won't be open for too long, so we need to act quickly.
Here is what you can do:
1) If you haven't already, then sign up to create your membership at the website.
2) Post a respectful but firm comment, expressing your views in the topic Should aspects of Sharia law be used in the UK?
3) Read through the comments on the website, and click on 'Recommend' for any comments that you agree with. This will make these comments more popular, which will make them more noticeable.
4) Look for any comments that are in violation of the house rules e.g. defamatory comments and report them.
If enough of us do all this, then we just might be able to make a difference. Muslims, are you going to defend your religion?
Non-Muslims, I know we might have our disagreements on the particular issue of Sharia law, but please comment and at least put in a good word for Islam and us peaceful Muslims.
Feel free to quote other comments and respond to them. This would be an effective way of clearing misconceptions about Sharia laws concerning women for example which some people have commented on.
Let's act now!
