I would like to open this page to share your idea on how we can guide student to use ICT on their education.

We know it may some time a threat to them or misguide them in a wrong way.
So we have to guide the students in a propper manner.

I hope what i say helps bro, i think you encourage students through :
1.visiting sites relating to their studies/dicussion forums on certain subjects, which the school/Uni should provide. internal forums need to be accessible an encouraged to be used. visiting certain sites which provide help an support need to identified and accessible.At my uni we do provide a forum, but there not used often.. were nt really encouraged to use them.

2.Bespoke software--speacialised software should be provided to aid learing.. i.e. Help wid GCSE Maths, english, science, etc they should be open to all students! same for Alevels.. but it gets harder to provide software for students at degree level.
We had this type of dicussion at university..is the software were using helpful? we have used software for JAVA programming, and programs for Networking, Artificial intelligience etc..

There are many tools, but they need to encouraged and accessible...:)

Yes fine.

But we are south Asian and targeting School Students where they do not have been provided Sites to vist. Only the book work.

They have the access to the computer, but in th eschool they haave not been given any motivation on this execpt few. And Internet is not also available simply. So we ere doing to have some project,

i. Selact the schools and coleges where the internet facilty (and other techonologies) are existing, and then Educcate them how to use ICT to their education in a safe and effective manner. - that is why, I opened this Thread to get some details from others and we can share our Idea too.

ii. For other schools where ICT is not much improved, we are trying to provide them PCs and Internet facility by the help of some sponsers.

So, I expect your comment on this friends.

Its down to electronic devices such as computers that make dynamic content accessible e.g. computers with internet access. Also providing material to students digitally saves paper and ultimately is more eco-friendly. ICT has had a big part in the role of education but the best is yet to come in my opinion.

There are sooooooo many programs out there that allow you to do this, it works by filtering the content on the Internet.

Just do abit of Google research, here's a few programs that block unwanted websites.

EDIT: The thing is with the Internet, anything can pop-up at any times, even if your children are not intending it for the wrong purpose things can pop-up therefore you need to make sure, you have proper web filters in place that prevent any sort of unwanted websites!

If your using Microsoft Windows Vista, it has its own build in parental control, just click User Accounts and click setup parental controls!

And I have a suggestion that We should place the PC in a public place not a hidden place from others such as inside the room to the child.

And also the duty of parents or the adults in the home is to look after them and should be aware of the sites what they are visiting..

Protecting your children from pornographic material on the Web

Pornography is part of our society and it's always been there, but the internet has made it easier to find. That doesn't mean the internet is a no-go area, you just have to take precautions. It's natural for children to be curious about the sort of images you wouldn't want them to see, so use your judgment to restrict the results of their curiosity. Be open about this, so you can trust them to tell you if they see something inappropriate.

If you are serious about tackling this problem, computer security software contains filters that block access to pornographic sites and can be effective, though not perfect. You can control the settings with a password that you should keep secret from your children. Update it regularly to filter the latest sites that have appeared, but remember to adjust the settings to a level that's appropriate for your child.

Across all children who use the internet, one on six (16 per cent) has come across something that concerns them, with this being more common for 12 to 15 year olds than 8 to 11 year olds - Ofcom report 2006

Pornographic spam email can contain some shocking images. If your ISP does not filter spam and you can't change ISP, buy spam filtering software yourself. Don't let your children use their personal email to register for services online because that's how the spammers get the email addresses they use. Set up a separate family email address which you use to register for services or competitions so that this will get most of your spam.

What you can do . . .

* agree a family code with the whole family, write it down and encourage everyone to stick to it
* search for appropriate sites for you and your children to surf together
* check with your internet service provider and browser for any controls already on offer
* use filtering software to limit access to inappropriate sites. Set it up at the right level for each member of the family and keep downloading the updates
* walled gardens are a good way of ensuring a safe environment with varying levels of filtering
* use child-friendly search engines like Yahooligans [External Site] or Ask Jeeves Kids [External Site]
* don't assume all child-friendly search engines to be 100 per cent safe. There have been instances of some advertising pornographic sites. So take an active role in your children's internet searches
* if you're still concerned regularly check the history folder on your browser as it contains a list of recently visited sites. It is easy to accidentally stumble across pornography, especially as many pornographic sites use innocent words in their addresses (e.g. Whitehouse, Barbie, etc.) So don't jump to conclusions if the history folder lists a porn site. If you discover sites that have been accidentally opened, delete the address from the history folder

Unwanted email, or spam, is a very popular with online pornography companies. They can be very difficult to filter out so it's a good idea to check the email inbox and delete it before surfing the internet with you children. Never reply to unwanted email or spam, even to unsubscribe from receiving further emails, as this is often a trick to confirm your email address.

Dear All,
Not like early ages we are facing several latest problem in our society. Most of the parents have a panic of their children though they are adhering Islamic values... slightly.

Your Children Are Home What Are They Doing?


It is a dangerous combination: video games and disassociated parents. Put these two together, and all you can expect is serious tunnels of perversion and destruction.

How much time have parents taken to see what video games their kids are playing?

Basically they only need to hear is "but mom, Ahmed and Talal have it", so assuming if other kids have the game it must be ok? What amazes me is that parents literally do not spend any time with their kids because it would only take 5 minutes relaxing on your son's bed while he is playing a video game to find out where your hard-earned dollar has been spent, which in the end will be asked about by Allah.

Let's take a little walk through of the most famous games that are available for kids these days. For the next five weeks I will focus on the top three games that go beyond your imagination. This should be important to you no matter who you are. Whatever the excuse, you need to know what is going on. For one day will be asked by Allah about our actions and our inactions. What then will be our excuse?

Excuse 1: But I don't know what my kids like, they are good at picking out their own games:

If your general attitude is like this then you have a lot to learn. Kids are picking out games that are "Hot" and "like the Jones's or the Ahmed's". They will do anything to be like all the other kids. Society kick-started by Shaytan has defined what is "cool" and this is very dangerous

Excuse 2: But my kids are small:

After reading about a few of these games you can only predict that the games in the video games in the future are only going to be more interactive, more perverted, and "better graphics" to see what is really happening in the game.

Excuse 3: My kids are grown now:

Even if your kids are grown now, you need to know what is going on out there. We all know other families who have children who buy video games. Many times these parents have no idea what they are playing. So we have a responsibility to our community to stay educated.

We need to stay on top of every evil and know everything about it in order to protect not only our own children but the children of the Ummah. We need to actively participate in denouncing these evil games. But we first need to know what we are talking about.

We are going have to walk on a side of the track that you would never have thought of walking in order to know our enemy. The one we have allowed in our home. I'm not saying throw out all the video games, but use common sense. All you have to do is go on the internet and read the reviews about the game and within seconds you will know what you are buying. Flip through the graphics and read what kind of kids are playing these games and why they think they are "cool" Even better borrow a games from one of your kid friends and take a look at what your kid is going to hear and see.

What's the problem? We are talking about rape, disgusting language, nudity, sex, killing police officers, ethnic cleansing, only to name a few points of the games that are out there.
