I've heard that there are sites out there which seem to talk about Islam but they're actually spreading lies, how can i be sure that when i read about Islam on the internet that i am reading Islam truth and not a deception?

I ask this because im on another site right now reading about Muhammadism, people who worship Mohammad rather than Allah and i was wondering if this was one of those sites.

I think i can trust this website because it notes specific verses in the Qur'an which check out OK.

:sl: (May peace be with you) James :),

That is a very interesting question. As I have heard, the number of sites providing false Islamic information is increasing, unfortunately, and as you are new to Islam there is no way to be able to be completely certain whether what you are reading is true or false. At this moment in time it would probably be best to ask people, or LI.

To your question (if you were asking it), no we worship Allah (SWT) and not Muhammad (PBUH), we believe Muhammad was a Prophet and not to be worshipped as he is not Allah.

About the site, it seems alright. Maybe some members can insha'Allah (God Willing) provide you with some sites that they are certain of that are reliable. I have one: http://www.islamreligion.com

Any further questions do not hesitate to ask :)

Assalamu Alaikum :D

well just make sure whatever you read relates to the teachings of the scholars from the first three generations.

Sticking to a madhab is a great blessing for us, this way at least we can be sure we're following the salaf :)

This is a difficult question to provide a blanket answer for a new revert, but I encourage you to stick to the ones that adhere to the Qur'an and Sunnah.

This is an example of a site to definitely avoid as it is teaching falsehood.
I think i can trust this website because it notes specific verses in the Qur'an which check out OK.

This site is also not from mainstream Islam as it negates the hadith which is the foundation for the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (saaws). While it is good to emphasize the Qur'an it is not good to ignore the other source of accepted knowledge in Islam, for example the hadith collections of Bukhari, Muslim, Dawood and Tirmidhi. Quoting from the site, "Like all the other sects as soon as the followers of the Nation of Islam decide to follow ONLY the word of God in the Quran for religious law and leave the words of man for political moves, they will find the truth and be guided." I would avoid this site, too.

You have taken the right step in wanting to learn how to pray, as prayer is the second pillar of Islam.

Have a look at these threads which contain many useful links (you may find some links going back to the same source):
