Meaning of Surah

can anyone please tell me what this Surah means

You will not find people who believe in GOD and the Last Day befriending those who oppose GOD and His messenger, even if they were their parents, or their children, or their siblings, or their tribe. For these, He decrees faith into their hearts, and supports them with inspiration from Him, and admits them into gardens with flowing streams wherein they abide forever. GOD is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. These are the party of GOD. Most assuredly, GOD's party are the winners.

does this mean you can not befriend non believers and not stay with khafirs if they are your blood relatives?

Here Allah in this Ayat does not say that you cannot befriend unbelievers, He only says that we should not befriend those who oppose Allah and His messenger. A person can be an unbeliever and not oppose Allah. At the time of the prophet, almost all the pagans of Makkah opposed him. But the prophet's uncle did not oppose him. He was a pagan but he still protected him. Our prophet loved him dearly. Furthermore, Allah also says in the Quran
"Allah forbids you not with regard to those who fight you not for your faith, nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them. For Allah loves those who are just. Allah only forbids you with regard to those who fight you for your faith, and drive you out of your homes and support others in driving you out, from turning to them for protection (or taking them as wali). Those who seek their protection they are indeed wrong- doers. (Al-Mumtahinah 60: 8-9
Also not befriending non-Muslims seems illogical. How can we revert them to Islam if we stay away from them?

suratul mujadala 22. ayaat

22. Thou wilt not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a spirit from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein (for ever). Allah will be well pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Truly it is the Party of Allah that will achieve Success.

8. Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.



suratul mumtahina 13. ayaat
13. O ye who believe! Turn not (for friendship) to people on whom is the Wrath of Allah, of the Hereafter they are already in despair, just as the Unbelievers are in despair about those (buried) in graves.

suratul mumtahina 9.ayaat
9. Allah only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.
