The masjids of Allah shall be visited and maintained by such as believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity, and fear none (at all) except Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance.
[at Tawbah; 9:18]

Al Aqsa Masjid

:sl:

Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa is the second Masjid ever to be built for the sole worship of Allah (SWT). Throughout the ages it suffered many transformations and destruction. When Omar Ibn Al- Khattab (RA) entered Bayt Al-Maqdis in 15 AH (636 AD) he ordered that the area, where he believed the Masjid location has been, to be cleared to start the building of the initial structure of the Masjid. The actual building started in 18 AH (639 AD) and the Masjid was made out of timber. Abd Al-Malik Ibn Marwan (RahA) began the construction of Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa in its new shape and structure but it was his son Al-Walid (RahA) who completed it in 90 AH (708 AD). The present structure has remained essentially intact since it was last reconstructed in 424 AH (1033 AD) by Al-Khalifa Ath-Thaahir who did not alter it from its previous architecture; he only narrowed it on each of its east and west sides.

Masjid Quba

The Quba Mosque (Quba' Masjid or Masjid al-Quba, Arabic: مسجد قباء) just outside Medina, Saudi Arabia, is the first mosque ever built and the oldest mosque of Saudi Arabia. Its first stones were positioned by the prophet Muhammad on his emigration from the city of Mecca to Medina and the mosque was completed by his companions. Muhammad spent more than 20 nights in this mosque (after migrating) praying qasr (a short prayer) while waiting for Ali whose house was behind this mosque.

According to Islamic tradition, offering 2 Raka'ahs of nafl prayers in the Quba Mosque is equal to performing one Umra.

Masjid al Qiblatein

Al Qiblataian

Masjid al Qiblatain is situated in Madinah. The masjid in which our beloved Prophet received Allah Ta'ala's command to adopt the Ka'bah as the qibla. He was already facing Masjid al-Aqsa, so he turned his face 180 degrees towards the Ka'bah and so did his followers. Hence, this mosque came to be called Masjid Qiblatain, the masjid with the two qiblas.
While the Prophet was praying, he was directed by angel Jibrail to turn from Masjid al-Aqsa (Jerusalem) to the Ka'bah (Makkah).

"Verily! We have seen the turning of your face towards the heaven; surely we shall turn you to a prayer direction (Qibla) that shall please you."
[al-Baqarah; 2:144]

The Blue Mosque - Turkey

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultanahmet Camii) is the national mosque of Turkey, and is a historical mosque in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey and the capital of the Ottoman Empire (from 1453 to 1923). The mosque is one of several mosques known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior. It was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. Like many other mosques, it also comprises a tomb of the founder, a madrasah and a hospice. (Wilkpedia)

I have often wondered if folks living in Makkah have other mosques other the than holy Mosque and why would they ever want to go pray anywhere else?...

is anyone on board from Makkah?

I have been to Jeddah as a child and was to make umra, except my aunt ended up in the ICU a complication of her pregnancy and I missed my chance.. May Allah swt grant me a hajj from his grace and generosity..
