About 2 and a half years ago one of my friends to me to some shaykh and said that he can do some cool stuff like teleport and be at four places at one etc. I was 15 back then and i went with him. There I met him he gave us a few lectures. The shaykh gave us a method in which if we were in trouble we can call to him for help. It was a three word thing we had to say, is this shirk? to call a shaykh for help by the heart? also i gave my baya to Shaikh Nazim Adil Al-Haqani so that he could help me out when ever i was in need and also to keep him in my heart. Is this shirk? If it is, does Allah forgive this kind of shirk.

Also i read people do shirk without realizing they are actually doing it. Even some small things can be shirk which don't come to our minds. Does Allah commit shirk which was commited unknowningly or at a young age.

Please help me I am depressed about this situation.

Firstly, teleporting, being in more than one place at the same time, walking on water, flying in the air, informing people of things that are exclusive to them, disappearing from people's eyes, seeming as appearing when called upon etc are not indications of piety, righteousness, wilaya or Taqwa. Rather, these are most likely actions of magicians who fool the people. These things are not new and are not hard to explain - a person who is contact with the Jinn can use them to fly through the air or walk on water or appear in his form when a 'mureed' is calling, or travel great distances very fast. These events are known and unspecial. The shaytan is perfectly capable of carrying him through the air, or over the water.

Secondly, these kinds of things occur amongst non-muslims as well such as the Jews or Christians. They even occur amongst people that are impure, who frequent dirt places such as bathrooms, graveyards etc, and those who neglect salah and other commandments. They occur amongst the ahl al-bidah too. Therefore, they are not an indication of anything, except perhaps that it is best to stay away from such people.

The karamaat of the true Awliya of Allaah are much greater than these feeble attempts at granduer. They occur to those that follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah as a blessing from Allaah because they are following the sunnah of His beloved Messenger (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam). The karamaat of the true Awliya of Allaah are for the purpose of aiding them in convincing people of the truth and calling them to the way, or to fill a need of the Muslims, just as the miracles of the Prophet were for these two purposes.

Did the Messenger (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) himself ever give any of his companions such a 'formula' for them to use to call upon him whenever they needed help? Ask yourself akhi, where is the proof for this? Did the beloved Messenger (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) do this? Or did his Companions do it?

If one were to call upon someone besides Allaah, and the one he is calling cannot hear the caller in normal circumstances (i.e. he is in a different house or city or far away from the range of hearing) and the caller believes that he can be helped [note that he is expecting a divine help here from him because the called upon is too far to hear the caller and therefore incapable of providing 'normal' help], then this is committing shirk because the caller is seeking the help of one that cannot provide it to him, rather, who cannot even hear him.

If the caller were to call upon him with his heart, besides Allaah, and the caller believes that he can be heard and helped, then this is shirk. It's no different than a Christian calling upon a saint of his instead of Allaah.

Disclaimer: I am only stating what is shirk. I am not saying that anyone that does the above is automatically a mushrik.

I'll give you something better than what that man gave you. At the following link, they have collected the authentic dua's and adhkaar [remembrance] that the Messenger (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) taught his Companions. Memorize them and use them daily and I promise you that, by the permission of Allaah, they will be of more benefit to you than anything else.

Seriously my brother, why would you call upon other than Allaah? Did the Messenger (salalahu alayhi wa sallam) ask his companions to call upon him and seek his help when they needed him? Did the Messenger (salalahu alayhi wa sallam) tell his Companions this or did any of the Companions tell any of their students this? Ask yourself this anytime someone calls you to something. Or did he (salalahu alayhi wa sallam) command his companions to ask Allaah, seek help from Allaah, and make their religion purely sincere for Allaah? Didn't the Messenger (salalahu alayhi wa sallam) say in a hadeeth reported by Abdullah ibn Abbas ra:
...If you (have need to) ask, ask of Allah; and if you seek help, seek help from Allah...
Tirmidhi, who said it is a good, genuine hadeeth. Imaam Nawawi included this hadeeth in his collection of 40 hadeeth.

Akhi, Allaah says: {Indeed, those you call upon besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful.}[al-'Araaf; 194]

He also says: {Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant [Prophet MuĂșammad]? And [yet], they threaten you with those [they worship] other than Him. And whoever Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.}[az-Zumar; 36]

In the same Hadeeth that I quoted above, the Messenger (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) says:
Know that even if the Nation (or the whole community) were to gather together to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with something, they would not be able to harm you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded against you.
Understand the roots of shirk brother. If an individual has knowledge of Allaah, that He is Supreme and All Powerful and that nothing, absolutely nothing, will ever occur without His Decree and Power, then such an individual will never call upon other than Allaah because such an individual knows that he has a Lord that is sufficient for him - his Lord is the only One that is capable of harming him or benefitting him. Common sense dictates that one should only call upon or seek divine help from Him.

An individual that has with him the Qur'an and can read it and understand the most basic message that is repeated everywhere of Tawheed - how can such an individual fathom making dua' to other than Allaah when the Qur'an is telling him repeatedly, over and over, to make his religion sincerly for Allaah?

Allaah presents an analogy for those people that call upon other than Him. He says:
O people, an example is presented, so listen to it. Indeed, those you invoke besides Allah will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for that purpose. And if the fly should steal away from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.
{al-Hajj; 73}
Indeed the caller and the called upon are both weak. Call upon the One who is actually capable of responding to you.

As for whether Allaah forgives shirk - yes He forgives it as long as the individual repents from it while he is still alive and never returns to it. However, those that die upon shirk, regarding them Allaah says:

{Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.}[an-Nisaa; 48]

Also i read people do shirk without realizing they are actually doing it. Even some small things can be shirk which don't come to our minds. Does Allah commit shirk which was commited unknowningly or at a young age.
Please help me I am depressed about this situation.
There are two types of shirk. Major shirk includes calling upon (making dua') to other than Allaah and more. Minor shirk includes riyaa, which is showing off - doing an action for the people or leaving an action for the people. As I said before, indeed Allaah forgives shirk if one repents from it before death.

Ok man thanks for all that writing i appreciate it. I know what i did was wrong and i have repented already. But this wasn't totally my fault because firstly i wasn't that mature. And i commited it unknowingly. But in my heart Allah was still greater. But i heard shirt is never forgiven.
