AssalamuAlaykum

Islamic Studies is going to be a Major from next year insha'Allah, well if not a Major then at least joint honours. Which means at least 4 new modules bi'ithnillah.

We're being asked what we want to study, I of course, suggested Fiqh and Aqeedah knowing full well that they wouldnt teach it....I've just been trying to figure out how I could pursuade him to do it, like how would it fit in with whatever else we're doing, I mean I've done Islamic Law and in there was Salafiyyah and the madhabs, Taqleed, Ijtihad etc etc so all he's really gotta do is dig deeper and go Aqeedah Tahawiyah...sounds so simple eh? :rollseyes

Well anyway, I need ideas insha'Allah of what new modules we could bring forward. At the moment I think he's thinking something like Islam and the Media, Politics, Islam and Mental/Social wellbeing. All good topics but dont quench any thirst for knowledge :skeleton:

Helppp!

That's awesome. Give Usool al-Fiqh a try, it's an awesome subject. Basic sciences of Hadeeth or Qur'aan..Maqasid ash-Shariah (Intents of the Shariah). Or a basic Fiqh class according to a madhab or more that teaches the basic Fiqh of purification, prayer, fasting and zakat. The fiqh of inheritance. A class on Tazkiyyah or manners. A class on the seerah of the Prophet (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam). A class on the era of the first 4 khulafa.

I'll throw out more ideas if they come.

Ps- For Aqeedah, I'd say you're better of studying it via AlMaghrib whenever it comes to your area Insha'Allaah. The classes are designed to teach it with a good, balanced method so you get the most benefit. Wallaahu 'Alam that's just my opinion.

BarakAllah feek, hope your hand gets better insha'Allah. No he's not a member here but I was thinking of linking him to the Mureed thread before as an excuse for handing in a crappy assigment :p

Oh and to link him to Fiqh of Love coz we was discussing marriage and divorce in Islam and the role of the Shari'ah courts in the UK :)

Woah JazakAllah khayr akhee! Some of them ideas are fab! A seerah class could work I guess, I'm doing Quranic Studies next Semester insha'Allah so I dont think he'd have a new module about the Qur'aan again...It's just that sometimes we have non-muslim students taking our modules as an elective which is why we wouldnt probably go to hardcore...keep it simple for them...But I think ima email him insha'Allah and suggest these.

JazakAllah khayr again.

'....In face adherents of the Muslim faith have to have to adopt practices or follow regulations which may not be categorised as the norm in the wider Western society, this can create unnecessary tension ... As a minor subject however, it is imposible to cover Islam from all of the foregoing perspectives. This course therfore takes as its 'Rationale' the need to focis on those aspects of Islam which have an immediate impact on the lives of Muslims whilst maining a balance between the wider impact of Islam and the classical approach ... For this reason, modules on the Qur'an and Islamic Law have been preferred to modules on Islamic Philosophy, Sufism etc''

Argh that's from my course handbook, think I've lost already.

ah... Oh well. Would of been interesting though. What about Islamic Theology... is that different?

The only other strictly Islamic specialisations I can think of are:

Hadiths
Fiqh
Tafseer
Seerah
Arabic Literature (?)
