Bush gets shoes Rice gets jewels

Imam Anwar Awlaki

The shoes of the journalist and the bullets of the fighters of Afghanistan and Iraq are a reflection of the feelings of the Muslims towards America. But the leaders feel otherwise.

According to the State Department, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice got jewelry worth far more than a quarter of million dollars from Arab heads of state in 2007 alone!

Isn’t Gaza under siege?

Allah (swt) says: “O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and Christians as allies. They are allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is one of them. Indeed Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.” (al-Ma’idah 51)

They are spending this money thinking America will avail them. They think that America has the power to keep them in power against the will of the people. Their money is wasted and they will regret it on the Day of Judgment.

“Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert from the way of Allah. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a source of regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved unto Hell will they be gathered” (al-Anfal 36)

And Allah says about the hypocrites who show their loyalty to the disbelievers:

“So you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e. hypocrisy] hastening into [association with] them saying, “We are afraid a misfortune may strike us.” But perhaps Allah will bring conquest or a decision from Him, and they will become, over what they have been concealing within themselves, regretful. (al-Ma’idah 52)

Their days are numbered and they will be swept away by the ones who fear no one but Allah. The ones who spend their wealth in the path of Allah.
Rasulullah says: “A person would be with the ones he loves on the Day of Judgment.” (Muslim)

O Allah we announce our disavowal of these corrupt leaders. We announce our separation from them in this world and we ask You to separate us from them on the Day of Judgment.

We love your servants and despise your enemies.

A very important note that was not mentioned in the above article.

Unfortunately for the Bushes, Rice and other recipients, they won't be able to enjoy the gifts as they have been turned over to the General Services Administration and government archives in accordance with federal law, which bars officials from accepting personal presents in almost all circumstances.

What exactly does that mean? Like does it only refer to formal alliances amongst states/parties, or interpersonal friendships?

As far as I know, it refers to all Muslims. There are various articles that try to give a more fuller explanation of this and similar verses in the Qur'an. Some favour a more liberal interpretation whereas others are more literal:

It's important to remember that any interpretation of a Qur'anic verse must be based upon the correct methodology and a good grounding in all the sciences pertaining to understanding the Qur'an.
