The last time I checked, we were still being told we live in a democracy...
The government have said if enough people sign the petition to stop the uk sending weapons to israel they will give us a response. Lets make this the biggest petition goverment has seen! Please sign and forward/email/text this to others. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Arms-embargo/

There are more convincing and legally binding ways to make your country do what you want. Why don't you gather signatures on the streets to have the government call a referendum on the issue?

Allahu a'lam if this makes a difference... *sigh*

Signed in the hope that it will...

I don't think so. There is nothing any more legally binding other than voting out this lot and replacing them and nothing more convincing than the street demonstrations happening already. These online petitions are just as effective as thse taken 'on the streets', if not more so. They do go direct to government and do get a response in the House if sufficiently well supported, which triggers a debate even if policy is not changed.

No government would hold a referendum on that issue, they are only (to all intents and purposes - there are very rare exceptions) held when neither government or Parliament have the constitutional power to make a decision without one. You will see the government sometimes jump through hoops to avoid one as with anything involving the EU, but here the matter is clear.
