That's what I thought...2004ish if I recall properly. I remember reading it was fake news (and I'm still waiting for the link )

Yea I was trying to look it up and apparently it never happened. I just got through reading one of those astronomy forums. From what I'm understanding, the only way this is going to happen is due to something disrupting the rotation (ex. planet getting hit by a meteor). I'm not big with astronomy so I can't really explain it. After reading 5 posts I had to go lay down :exhausted

Retrograde motion has nothing to do with the planet changing backwards on its orbit. It's the way planets appear to move against the backdrop of the stars, when the planet comes back around the sun to complete its orbit, it can appear to move backwards in the sky due to this.

I would post a site but I can't yet so just type in google "retrograde motion" and it's the first one that comes up, describes the phenomenon quite nicely.

News seems fake to me.

Our beloved messenger Mohamed (Peace Be Upon Him) said: "One of the signs of the hour..the sun will rise from the west, where no longer tauba(forgiveness) will be granted" !!And the strange thing..most of our Shariah scholars mentioned that the rise of the sun from the west occurs only once..on that day..the sun will rise from the west..then again from the east..and continues until Allah wishes..and this is similar to what is happening to Mars..it stops, then it changes its course of direction for a short period of time..then returns to way once it was.

And Abdullah Bin Amro (R.A.) said: (I memorized from the messenger (SAW) a hadith I will never forget..I heard the messenger of Allah (SAW) say: The first aya to come the rise of the sun from the west) [Ahmad]
And the messenger SAW "Allah (SWT) places HIS hand at night to forgive his morning sinners, and places in the morning to forgive his night sinners until the sun rises from the west" [Muslim]
This piece of news is very important as it brings with it a great sign of warning and remembrance of the coming of a new WORLD - the world of he Hereafter When we show this hadith that was told 1400 years ago about this miracle..you will see InshaALLAH, a lot will rivert to right path...And the muslims if they see this phenomena happening in
Mars..who knows maybe it would bring them closer to our CREATOR.

the first thing (sorry if some1 mind)...we should not need any other authication for hadith.we have more blv on Hadith than NASA or else.....so its sure the sun will rise from west one day, dont know when but it sure its after the IMAM Mehdi AS and Hazrat Essa AS....so there are many other indications of qayama which are still not happened...so i blv if its happened as NASA said or in near future some1 other predict and it happen, doesnot matter untill other indication as mentioned in Hadith will happened. so qayama is near to us but after Mehdi AS and Essa AS.
my personal blv is that maybe in next some years Dijjal will appeared...just in next few yaers!!!!!!!!!! so now it emergency time to strength our emman and ammal............................................and blv we cant save ourself from fitna dijjal by our wealth, degrees, status and all these wordly things in which we are indulged today and leave efforts of emman.....anyway may ALLAH SWT keep mercy on us and give us tofiq to wake up and try to understand the need of the time.

Quite right. This just is yet another illustration of the value of the internet in getting out tidbits of information which may not be properly understood by the reader who then misinterprets or misapplies it to something in a different context. The appearance of Mar's motion is going to change from earth. This happens to all of the planets from any other planet. But the actual motion of the planet does not change. Further, the interpretation that this means the sun will now rise from the west of Mars is not what it actually means.


But most importantly the direction a planet travels around the sun, be it Mars or Earth, has nothing whatsoever to do with which horizon the sun rises from unless the rotation of the planet is slower than its orbit. For the sun or Mars or anything else to appear to rise from the western horizon the earth would have to reverse it's direction of rotation. What Mars does in it's orbit is irrelavant to this. The person commentating on NASA's announcement clearly does not understand what NASA is describing as it effects either Mars or Earth-bound observers.

You need to see that Mars bar moving against the background of a Milky Way. :statisfie

I fear if we keep talking about Mars and Venus they will get mad and stop sending us Candy and Pencils.

Retrograde motion of the planets has nothing to do with how they are moving in relationship to our view. It is a common occurrence and takes place at least once a year in relation to at least 1 of the planets further from the sun then we are. If we were on Venus or Mercury we would periodically see the same thing happen to our view of earth. A bit difficult to explain, but it has to be because we are in motion around the sun. Our point in space is constantly changing. Sort of like if you walk a full circle around big Ben for part of the walk Big Ben will be to your east and for another part it will be to your west. Big Ben didn't move your view changed as you move.

No point in running this further into the ground and causing more confusion.
