Shaykh Dr. Samir al-Nass (Syria)

Shaykh Dr. Samir al-Nass was born in Damascus, Syria. He studied in the College of Medicine of the University of Damascus. He also studied in the United States and became qualified in eternal medicine. He studied under some of the great ulama of Sham and Saudi Arabia.

Shaykh Samir has ijazah in the ten styles of recitation of the narration of Shatibiyyah and Durra from Shaykh Muhammad Sukr. He received an ijazah in the ten styles of recitation of the narration of Tayyibah from the Egyptian Shaykh Ahmad Mustafa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who is a student of Shaykh Abd al-Aziz al-Zayyat of Egypt. He has ijazah in fiqh and ‘aqida from the previous Mufti of Syria, Shaykh Abu Yusr ibn ‘Abidin, Shaykh Lutfi al-Fayumi, and Mufti Shaykh Adeeb al-kallas.

Shaykh Samir was honoured to study hadtith in Makkah al Mukarramah with the great Shaykh Yasin al-Fadani al-Makki, and Shaykh Dr. Nur ud-din Itar of Syria. He also has an ijazah in hadith from Shaykh Abd Allah Siraj ud-din from Aleppo in Syria. He has been teaching at various deen intensive courses in England and North America since 2000 and is currently teaching tajweed on a daily basis in Syria.

Shaykh Samir is presently a teacher in the al–Fath al-Islami University in Damascus, teaching the Hanafi fiqh manual al-Hidayah in the takhassus shariah department and lecturing in the ten recitations of Quran in the Masters department.

Background to Al Mukhtasar Al Quduri (text to be covered)
Al-Quduri's most famous work, Al-Mukhtasar is also known as Al-Kitab – a matn of Hanafi Fiqh. The book addresses approximately 12,500 issues, spanning the entire spectrum of fiqh. Not only matters of worship are covered, but also business transactions, personal relations and penal and judicial matters.

The book is recognised and respected as a reliable book of the Hanafi school, and has had various commentaries written on it.

The section of marriage covers:
• The contract.
• Witnesses - prohibited persons, by kinship, by marriage ties, by suckling, by religion
• The wali – precedence for wilayah, compatibility, authority of the wali
• The mahr – specification and entitlement
• Divorce – invalidation of marriage, physical defects, embracement of Islam, apostasy
• Treatment of wives
