I know that non Muslims are prohibted from entering Mecca. Does the same rule apply to Madinah as well?

yes, they are supposed to be forbidden for the whole land of the two holy santuaries, some say this is just saudi arabia, others say the whole arabian peninsila.

Really? In Saudi Arabia there are many Christian foriegn workers that live there. There are many Christian women married to Saudi men that live in the Kingdom with there husband and families.

i know, we have problems in that we have leaders who dont stick to the rules themselves.

i dont know about wives, but workers and especially soldiers shouldnt be there but they are because of the actions of the saudi rulers.

but look at islam in your searching for the truth, not the actions of a few rich old men who put their wealth and comfort first, if you want a good example of islamic leadership then read up about the rightly guided khalifs -abu bakr, umar, uthman and ali.
