Assalamu alaikum wr wb

I will be a one-year old Muslim at the end of Aug 2009 alhamdulillah so will be due to pay zakat.

However, insha'Allah, could someone clarify something for me. Now that I am married, in May 2009, do I still pay my zakat independently for the year, or is my husband now responsible for my zakat???

JazakAllah kheir

"Your father, husband, brother, etc. may be required to spend on your livelihood, but they certainly are not required to pay zakah due on your properties. If they ever pay any such thing, it will be so only as a voluntary act on your behalf and in your name. Zakah is due on the owner, and you are the owner of your money and other properties." [**]
