I though it might be useful if we each shared our retrospective thoughts on what a New Muslim needs in the early days, maybe to come up with some sort of comprehensive checklist.

I'll make a start:

- how to pray, fast, and fulfil the five pillars
- Muslim friends, converts and otherwise, to talk to and discuss issues with
- a copy of the Qur'an
- someone to go to mosque with (it being better to go sooner rather than later)

A new muslim needs strong faith, and hope, this will keep them in Islam, some new muslims are not able to find muslim friends to talk with or go to the mosque/masjid with, being a new muslim can be a lonely time so, it is conviction that Islam is the truth that will keep a new muslim on the right track, and not necessarily the muslims they meet with. It is Allah who ultimately guides the new muslim and Allah alone keeps the new muslim inside Islam.

New muslims need alot to make the biggest change they may ever make...
- to be corrected when they make mistakes in a polite and tactful manner
- to be respected for seeking the truth, leaving behind old lives (friends, food, work, family, social life (dunya)) and turning to Allah
- not to be judged by the anything before Islam or anything done out of ignorance/ lack of knowledge :nervous:
- not to be ask 101 questions by everyone they meet :heated:
- to see a good example of the beauty of Islam, especially by those who are preaching/teaching
- names of scholars to listen to, book to read
- encouragement to keep on with the deen
- website links and heaps of dawah material
- if they are 46 dont speak with them like they 6

Also would be great if they could see us United as One Nation, One Ummah :statisfie

They should not have to experience cultural, ethnical divisions or exclusion for any other reason in this religion of peace, mercy, and unity :embarrass.

Our cast, our wealth, our beauty is nothing, Our honesty, our conciousness, our deen, our integrity, our Emaan is everything. May Allah strengthen us all in our deen to show and bring more brothers and sisters to the truth.

Lots of really good points there, although much of that sounds a bit more like a guide for those in contact with converts rather than the converts themselves! Maybe we need two lists. The original idea was so a new Muslim could see what things are thought to be essential for them... :)
