Salaamu Alaikum.

Today was my first day wearing hijab alhumdulillah. I have been debating about it for quite awhile and I finally decided to just do it for Allah. That thought made the debate be over.

I felt good and peaceful today alhumdulillah.
I also had some thoughts also as far as if I can really keep this up.. (Just being completely honest). Of course I want to. I just don't know a whole lot of Muslim people where I live. Less than 5. imsad

I believe Shaytan has been messing with me, now that I am trying to make an effort to get closer to Allah and better in my deen.
One big concern I have is getting a job. That is something that I MUST do after completing college insha'Allah and I am worried that I may be discriminated against. Honestly that was one thing that was holding me back when I was deciding on whether I should wear hijab or not. I decided that it is better to obey Allah and just do my best in trying to pursue a job. I still have some worries about that though.
Are there any encouraging articles relating to this?

JazakAllahu khayrun.

We all are encouraging you. I admit the step you have taken is not easy. May Allah keep you steady in your decision. The more you obey Allah, the more Shaytan will be giving you trouble this way or other and more the reward will be added in your account to be granted in hearafter.

As someone not yet Muslim I applaude your stand for faith. I acknowledge your fear of discrimination. I believe God guides us and protects us. So may he strengthen you in this time of worry.

CONGRATUALTIONS!!!!! It is such a big step to wear hijab. I remember when I first wore it. I wasnt living at home, but when my parents came i was scared what they will say. It took me almost a year to wear it in front of them but alhamdulillah now they support me to wear it. I think the fear of doing something is immense but when you actually get around to doing it its not that bad after all. Alhamdulillah the feeling is good and the reward will be big inshallah :)

Salam,
Mashallah, I hope you will keep the hijab on inshallah. But honestly, in my village back home where I have to be in hijab when I visit my parents in the weekends there live no Muslims at all, no black people. There are only racist and nazist gangs. But they don't scare me, I am not ashamed. I don't go out alone because of them and I probably won't either. Here in the city where I live I don't really know any Muslims, there are Muslims but I haven't gotten to know them. Does this stop me? No. I just love the hijab so much and have waited until I could use it since I used it half days in summer sometimes when I was really far away from my home before my parents knew about my conversion.
So don't let anything stop you. But I understand it's harder if you don't like to wear the hijab.

Mashallah. Congeraultions.
I started to wear hijab 2 1/2 weeks after I coverted to Islam. There are hardly any muslim in my town and I know 0 of them so the 1st day I wore it out of the house was nerveracking but I was thinking, I don't care what people think. I wore it to college and I told everyone I converted to Islam. I wore it to see parents later on in that week and I told them of my convertion to Islam at the same time. They were not to imprested but now they are alright with it and with me.
Stay stong and stick with it. You are wearing it for Allah.

SubhaanalLah wal-HamdulilLah.

[I am also myself struggling at the moment though not about hijaab but with wearing jilbaab. See I have just one jilbaab and at times Shaitaan tries to affect me. I start to think that it's weird me wearing the same the whole year everyday at school, with same cloth always. So at times I think I should change to tunika etc. Nor is it helping when mother would want me to wear different kinds of clothes. (Also my mind at times debades about praying in front of others at school. Jazakumullahu khairan the other members at the thread for the advices and support they gave me. I do try to pray very strongly nowadays. I seek Allah's help) ]

I tend to make du'aa to Allah and ask His help. And without Him I NEVER could have done anything, I am so so weak really. AlhamdulilLah for the Almighty's guidance

I know that stuff like hijaab, niqaab, clothes isn't easy at all. That's why I try to at times make du'aa to make it easier for the Ummah, all of us around the world.

I was just about to share what happened to me today, but I changed my mind coz' I believe it is between me and Allah. But I can tell you that I realized that if we really put our trust in Allah, , be patient and seek His help sincerily then Insha'lLah He will help us. Today Allah helped me alot, when I thought everything was over, He saved me from the situation my heart hated. Allah is so Merciful, we sin and sin and He provides and provides us

My mind was also debading alot before wearing hijaab, but Al-hamdulilLah some truthful lectures by Umar Abdelkafy about the Hereafter/before the Hereafter helped me alot. Actually my problem was that my nafs said that I will do it after I finnish school, i will do it later etc etc. Little by little I realized that I could die any moment and that it was not how I wanted to die.

I think we really should appreciate the Truth and Allah's guidance more

Sister you are on the right path, dont we wanna be among those whom will be with the Prophet (SAAS) in the Hereafter?

May Allah give us and all the Ummah strength and guidance around the world

I reckon people do discriminate because of Hijjabs but if they discriminate someone with one on, they will when someone isnt wearing one.

There are employers out there that wont really care, they are the ones that you would want work for anyway.

Why would someon want to work for an employer who discriminates for any reason. At least when you stand in front of an emplyer they know what they are getting, which I respect more.

Good lcuk and remember the greatest reward liest with Allah.

Hi Glo,

I have to honestly say it has been nothing but positive alhumdulillah. At first, I was nervous and I had my concerns. Now I don't feel fully clothed unless I am wearing the hijab. Going outside without it would be like going out without a shirt, if that makes sense.
I have not had any negative experiences yet alhumdulillah. Nobody has been rude.
I am seeing more and more sisters who are covered in my area also. :)
Thanks for asking. :D

Peace.

Why Should I Wear the Hijaab?

http://www.troid.org/

"PIVOTAL QUOTE"

Dear Muslim sister! Come towards the gates of Paradise with us! Fulfill your duties towards Allaah, put on your adornment - put on your hijaab, and race towards Jannah (Paradise) by doing all good actions.

This is a good question and there is a beautiful answer! Allaah has commanded us with every action that is good for us and prohibited us from performing every action that is bad for us. Allaah orders the Muslim woman to wear the hijaab when she steps out of the security of her home or when in the presence of strange men. So to wear the hijaab is a source of great good for you – the Muslim woman - for many reasons. Among them:

1.

You please Allaah. You are obeying the commands of your Lord when you wear the hijaab and you can expect great rewards in return.
2.

It is Allaah’s protection of your natural beauty. You are too precious to be "on display" for each man to see.
3.

It is Allaah’s preservation of your chastity.
4.

Allaah purifies your heart and mind through the hijaab.
5.

Allaah beautifies your inner and outer countenance with hijaab. Outwardly your hijaab reflects innocence, purity, modesty, shyness, serenity, contentment and obedience to your Lord. Inwardly you cultivate the same.
6.

Allaah defines your femininity through the hijaab. You are a woman who respects her womanhood. Allaah wants you to be respected by others, and for you to respect yourself.
7.

Allaah raises your dignity through the hijaab. When a strange man looks at you, he respects you because he sees that you respect yourself.
8.

Allaah protects your honour 100% through your hijaab. Men do not gaze at you in a sensual way, they do not approach you in a sensual way, and neither do they speak to you in a sensual way. Rather, a man holds you in high esteem and that is just by one glance at you!
9.

Allaah gives you nobility through the hijaab. You are noble not degraded because you covered not naked.
10.

Allaah demonstrates your equality as a Muslim woman through the hijaab. Your Lord bestows upon you equal worth as your male counterpart, and gives you a host of beautiful rights and liberties. You express your acceptance of these unique rights by putting on the hijaab.
11.

Allaah defines your role as a Muslim woman through the hijaab. You are a someone with important duties. You are a reflection of a woman of action not idle pursuits. You display your sense of direction and purpose through your hijaab. You are someone that people take seriously.
12.

Allaah expresses your independence through the hijaab. You are stating clearly that you are an obedient servant of the Greatest Master. You will obey no one else and follow no other way. You are not a slave to any man, nor a slave to any nation. You are free and independent from all man-made systems.
13.

Allaah gives you the freedom of movement and expression through the hijaab. You are able to move about and communicate without fear of harassment. Your hijaab gives you a unique confidence.
14.

Allaah wants others to treat you – a Muslim woman - with kindness. And the hijaab brings about the best treatment of men towards you.
15.

Allaah wants your beauty to be preserved and saved for just one man to enjoy – your husband.
16.

Allaah helps you to enjoy a successful marriage through wearing hijaab. Because you reserve your beauty for one man alone, your husband’s love for you increases, he cherishes you more, he respects you more and he honours you more. So your hijaab contributes to a successful and lasting marriage relationship.
17.

Allaah brings about peace and stability in the society through the hijaab! Yes this is true! Men do not cause corruption by forming illegal relationships because you - the Muslim woman - calm their passions. When a man looks at you, he feels at ease, not tempted to fornicate…

So a Muslim woman in hijaab is dignified, not dishonoured, noble, not degraded, liberated, not subjugated, purified, not sullied, independent, not a slave, protected, not exposed, respected, not laughed at, confident, not insecure, obedient, not a sinner, a guarded pearl, not a prostitute…

Dear Muslim sister! Come towards the gates of Paradise with us! Fulfill your duties towards Allaah, put on your adornment - put on your hijaab, and race towards Jannah (Paradise) by doing all good actions. You should agree by now that wearing hijaab is extremely beneficial – it must be - because Allaah only commands what is good…

…and believe me dear sister, it is good to obey the commands of your Lord…

"Their reward is with their Lord: Gardens of Eden underneath which rivers flow wherein they will dwell for ever; Allaah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him; this is (in store) for whoever fears his Lord." [Sooratul-Bayyinah 98:8]

Awh MashAllah, Mabrook!

Great posts in this thread too, mashAllah!

I guess the best advice has been given, but i'll simply add that wearing hijab will inshAllah bring you nothing but benefits, whether it is in this life or the next. It was prescribed for us for beautiful reasons, it's entire concept is beautiful, and if you truly understand why you are wearing it, then do not worry; you'll never be able to take it off :).

As for a job, trust me, we all have that little fear inside of us... try your best and inshAllah you will find a job, let your personality and your qualifications show trough your interview; employers are usually looking for someone who they know can get the job done right, who possess outstanding qualifications, who are confident in their abilities yet still willing to learn.
