Actually, JannahNetwork is sponsoring a free course on LabbaykAcademy.com. The topic is the Conquest of Persia in the light of Khalid bin Walid. Pre-registrations have already begun, so go register free now at LabbaykAcademy.com! :statisfie

SunniPath isn't bad, but it's quite pricey. You can also look into IlmEssentials.com. I attended a semester there, and the course was quite beneficial Masha'Allah.

Thanks for all the replies! I wish I would have known all this before I signed up for the courses. I looked all over the site and was unable to find anything about sufism. However, I am a new revert and sometimes I think that I don't know exactly where to look! Your insights are very helpful!!

I personally do not have problem with "Sufism. However, SunniPath is dodgy because their scholars follow the Ashari aqeeda of philosophy and theology. That is very problematic and not from the Prophet.

In the Name of Allah (The Exalted).

If you have paid money, then speak to them and say you are unable to attend their courses due to "unforeseen circumstances," referring to some of their beliefs. And try to get your money back, they will mostly likely refund.

I would also suggest to not gain Islamic knowledge from this site and its followers. Some things they say are correct, but their are other statements that they make which are incorrect or exaggerations. Their is a person know as Hamza Yusuf and another called Nuh Ham Killer, in the land you reside in. These two persons are know to be Sufis, they are associated with the site. They also condemn other Muslims and call them misguided when they are against their Sufi ideas, such as the scholars of Saudi Arabia.

The following websites have good lectures or free courses to learn about Islam:

1) http://www.islamiconlineuniversity.c...rses&Itemid=20

2) http://thedeenshow.com/show.php

3) I recommend the lectures by Yasir Qadhi, I don't know about the rest of the site. I recommend watching "Why Worship God" first. http://www.tubeislam.com/search/?sea...ideos&submit=+

And Allah Knows Best.

Some members mentioned that you should focus on learning the basics and maintain a critical mind in the sense that you ensure evidence is coming from the Qur'an and Sunnah. This is very true.

However, learning the basics should itself be from a source that is trustworthy and known to be upon the Qur'an and Sunnah. Otherwise, if you get the foundations wrong, what will the rest of your study be based on? If a person was already well grounded in the foundations, then it might be a different case as that person could differentiate between right and wrong. But for someone starting at the beginning, it is very important to establish a solid base to protect you from confusion.

May Allaah (swt) keep us all steadfast upon the Straight Path, the path of the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wasallam) and his Companions, and all those who followed in their footsteps, Aameen.
