once i heard that sometimes that the preservatives/additives, etc food company's add in their food are actually synthetically made.

so im wondering: 1) does that mean they are permissible and 2) how often does this occur? i mean when you buy such foods, is there a large chance that you are buying something that has synthetically made preservatives, etc. it is something common for food companies to add synthetically made products in their products?
